The seller is a board member here, and yes they are that crazy for that year!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • Yes, the bidding was crazy for that auction. Yet the seller's copy was not dishonest and did not over hype the coins.

I noticed the auction at the time and since the prices for the Phil-Americans are rising sharply, I was wondering if that was a real price. Actually, I was HOPING that had become the real price, since I hold duplicates in better condition.

But since then, the prices have come back down to reality. What would you say, Mr. FilamCoins would be a reasonable price for an nice Murphy Quezon peso graded MS 64 by PCGS?

Hi there Mr. Fun, well, earlier in the year, a few of the big house auctions had the set of 3 going for around $500-550 in MS64-65. Seems there are always a few strong buyers for the quality stuff these days. I can't wait to see www.philippinecoins.com back in action!!! Should be fun to watch image Regards.

Newsman, I'll let Mr. Fun answer that question.

Shiro, you know where to find me image

    Have a great weekend all!!!

  • Hello Newsman:

We'll be reopening www.philippinecoins.com as soon as I have all the pieces in place. When it opens it will have all the old inventory plus about 200 additional certified US Philippines coins from my own personal collection including

-- the most beautiful proof 1/2 centavo I've ever seen (1903 graded Pr 67 RED by NGC, old holder)

-- One of the most beautifully toned pesos I've ever seen (1903, bullseye rainbow toning, graded Pr 66 by PCGS),

-- If I can get to my safety deposit box in America, it will have several complete sets of the proofs in different conditions

-- Some of the highlights for the business strikes will be the famous 1906-S peso, graded AU58 by PCGS and the 1928 20 centavo mule graded MS64 by PCGS. Plus other key dates in anywhere from AU to Unc. I expect this to be the most complete listing of high-grade US-Philippine business strikes available anywhere

-- A nice selection of interesting US Philippine varieties, more than a few of which are previously unknown.

-- A neat collection of error coins, all of which are extremely scarce to rare in the US PHilippines series

-- A wide selection of Philippine patterns

-- Some interesting informative brochures and mini-books such as one on how to tell a real 1906-S peso from a counterfeit ... or a listing and evaluation of all the neat, groovy varieties in the centavo series, including the 1908-S horned S to the North; the 1908-S horned S to the South (much rarer); and the 1908-S/S/S. The 1918-S Large S is well known. But how many people have seen the extremely rare 1914-S large S and !916-S large S? We'll have pictures of them. Ditto for the 1917/8 and 1917/6, and a slew of other easy and hard varieties.

Eduardo Lapuous, Jr., will run the business from Manila. He has been working on recreating the website, photographing the inventory, and with me, writing the copy for it.

Jon Rosenthal will be our spiritual advisor and our buyer in the US.

The pieces are slowly coming together. I've conceptualized and helped build more than two-dozen businesses for clients, at least 12 of which are still around as profitable, 6, 7, and 8 figure businesses. But this is far more complex than the other businesses (and will probably be a heck of lot less profitable, too). It's touch and feel for all of us but since this is not where I eat, I'm content to glide along until we're really, really ready.

When will we open our doors? Well, we're sort of half opened already. Mr. FilamCoins will be forever enshrined as our first "official" client. After a wonderful evening of schmoozing about the US Philippine coins, we ended up swapping some coins, and a little bit of cash crossed into Eduardo's ledger books to even things out. Thank you, Mr. FilamCoins. Great evening.

And if you or anyone else wants to contact Eduardo, his e-address is: <kakashi_ph@yahoo.com>

    Best wishes,

I do not consider that completely unreasonable. There are stories about the surviving population in high quality grades. Some of these issues were allegedly dumped in Manilla Bay at the time of the invasion. The mintage figures are low to begin with and the surviving population in quality grades has always created a lively debate.
