So what would you do if...

You submit a lowpop common and it returns a full grade higher than the grade you collect.

The card in question is a 1963 Topps #291 Don Rudolph PSA 8. I'm doing my set in PSA 7, but I haven't seen this card graded on Ebay in the two years I've been working on it.

I've already decided what I'm going to do with it, but I'm very interested to hear others thoughts.

  • Offer it to some of the top sets that have a 7 as an upgrade. Trade plus cash is the way to go.

Break it out and see if PSA returns it in a 7 holder next time.

That would make my decision a lot easier. image

In all seriousness, I have several sets where I end up with a card graded PSA 8 AND a high end PSA 7 that I like better than the 8. There are other collectors that do the same thing. Unless it was one of the toughest cards in the set, I would just keep it. Another option is to troll the set registry (set by set) for someone building a PSA 8 caliber set that has a PSA 7 filler registered in their set and contact them.

    Good luck.

I would do exactly what has been suggested. Talk to the other set builders and offer one of them the 8 in exchange for the same card in 7 and either other card(s) that you need (and that they are willing to part with) or cash. That would work for all parties involved, I think.

Segard----- Are you sure that isn't a 1963 #291 Rudolph, Senators? If you can send a scan I may buy it. Easy enough? Thanks--- Tony

It is in fact the 291 Rudolph. I really don't think I'm going to sell it until I've either acquired a seven, or get one back as many have advised.

    Thanks for the input everyone.
  • Why don't you want it if it's a grade higher than you collect? You want every card in the set in the same grade?
