Gotta love it!
Not surprising that Pay-Rod whined, but somewhat suprised that Torre did! If he wanted home field advantage so bad, he should have started Small or Mussina instead of their batting practice pitcher, Jared Wright!!
<< <i>The New York Yankees will be on the road for Game 1 of their Division Series against the Los Angeles Angels. And the Bronx Bombers are crying foul about it, directing their ire against former Yankees manager Buck Showalter.
Showalter removed starters Michael Young, Mark Teixeira and Hank Blalock for pinch-runners in the third inning against the Angels on Sunday. The Texas Rangers led 4-1 after three innings, but the Angels rallied for a 7-4 victory and earned home-field advantage for the first round against the Yankees with the victory.
Young, Teixeira and Blalock went a combined 4-for-5 on Sunday, but their replacements went 0-for-6.
The Yankees, who lost 10-1 in Boston on Sunday, finished with an identical 95-67 record as the Angels, but Los Angeles won the tiebreaker because it won six of 10 games against New York this season.
Former Ranger Alex Rodriguez, who played for Showalter in Texas, was one of the Yankees who was peeved at the Rangers manager's decision.
"There's a code of honor when so much is on the line," Rodriguez told the New York Daily News. "You hope people do the right thing. But you can't control what people do."
Yankees manager Joe Torre was equally surprised.
"It's surprising," Torre told The New York Times. "If his team was in the playoffs, I could understand it a little bit more. It's just surprising he pulled them so soon."
Showalter defended his decision, saying he wanted his three young stars to get an ovation from the home crowd in the team's final game of the season. >>

It's the same people whining the white sox taking their starters out...if it's so important as the yankees claim it to be, they why didn't they take care of business BEFORE the last game of the season?
Like you said, if it was so important, why give Mussina the day off?
$208 million and what do you get? A team full of whiny babies?
Why concern yourself with the lowly Texas Rangers? Just take care of business yourself and you won't have to worry.
Remember these Chuck Norris Facts
1. When Chuck Norris does a pushup, he isn't lifting himself up, he's pushing the Earth down
2. According to Einstein's theory of relativity, Chuck Norris can actually roundhouse kick you yesterday
3. There are no such things as lesbians, just women who have not yet met Chuck Norris
<< <i>Like you said, if it was so important, why give Mussina the day off? >>
I agree. It really wasn't critical. It was much more important to have Moose pitching in the playoffs early.
<< <i>Maybe the Yanks should have shown up Sunday to try and take care of things themselves. Celebrating like they did Saturday seems a little unbecoming for the 26x champs. >>
Exactly! By changing starters at the last minute Sunday, didn't the Yanks do the same thing? Where was their "code of honor" for the Indians? A-Rod says the dumbest things, and you can always count on him for a sound bite like that one.

So true!! I'm sure serving up Wright and Proctor to get shelled by Manny didn't set well with the Tribe.
And, depite this year's gawdy offensive numbers, Pay-Rod is still not a Real Yankee™

Come on CT, your Curt Schilling says just as many stupid things. The loosey goosey Red Sox can't stand the prima donna ...... so how do comments to the media matter about anything? Curt Schilling's dumb mouth still got you guys a WS championship ...... what does it matter what they say?

<< <i>After Champagne, Some Yanks Try The Whine
October 4, 2005
CHICAGO - After a long, noble push to the playoffs, suddenly, they come off a little scared. Suddenly, they sound like built-in excuse makers.
Suddenly, they sound less like the mighty Yankees.
And more like a team looking to lose.
Why did the manager, a man who built his reputation on serenity and perseverance, even bother to open his mouth on the subject? Why did the third baseman, one of the two best players in the American League in 2005 and the most complete baseball player in the world, join in?
Why didn't they grit their teeth and bear it like general manager Brian Cashman?
Real Yankees don't moan.
Do they?
Yet there were Joe Torre and Alex Rodriguez Sunday, after the Red Sox had kicked them all over Fenway Park to the regular season-ending tune of 10-1, questioning Buck Showalter for pulling his star players against the Los Angeles Angels.
How could Buck pull Mike Young with a 4-1 lead in the third inning?
How could he pull Mark Teixeira?
And Hank Blalock?
Showalter said he did it to get them a richly deserved ovation for their seasonlong contributions. It played well in Arlington, but all he got were Bronx cheers from the Bronx.
Didn't Buck care that by blowing that three-run lead and losing 7-4 the Texas Rangers cost the Yankees home-field advantage in the ALDS against the Angels?
"I was surprised," Torre told reporters. "I could see if his team was in the playoffs and he wanted to rest players. I don't understand that. It's just surprising he pulled them so soon."
A-Rod picked up the torch and made the matter burn more.
"He is the manager and has the right to do as he chooses," A-Rod said. "There is a code of honor with so much on the line. But you can't control what people do."
Only a fool would think Showalter didn't get a little bit of a chuckle when he took a look at the Yankees' transcontinental travel itinerary.
But Torre's argument would hold more than a thimble of water if he hadn't immediately pulled Mike Mussina from the starting rotation as soon as the Yankees clinched the AL East title Saturday and replaced Moose with washed-out Jaret Wright.
A-Rod's argument would hold more than a thimble of champagne that was being sprayed around the visiting clubhouse Saturday if some of his teammates hadn't continued to chug it long into the Boston night.
The New York Post reported second baseman Robinson Cano was the life of the party at Whiskey Park, a club owned by Cindy Crawford's husband, Rande Gerber. Chien-Ming Wang was there, too. The Post got the juicy details, describing Cano as holding a Grey Goose vodka and cranberry in one hand and a flute of champagne in the other. Cano may be a rookie, but clearly he has developed a veteran's taste. >>
And softparade, your best defense is to spin it on Schilling instead?
Whiners! If they hadn't let KC sweep them, if they had a winning record against Tampa, if they had showed up Sunday, THEY WOULDN'T HAVE NEEDED HELP FROM TEXAS.
Bravo Showalter, good show!
gotta agree with that.
As many of you know/don't know, I grew up rooting for both teams (strange but true, and whattyagonnado), and for some reason I stopped liking the yanks as much when they signed Arod and Giambi. I still rooted for a Sox win when they played the Yankees pre-Arod, but ever since they got him, I root even harder ... to the point where I enjoy seeing them lose to teams other than the Sox.
The Yankees I grew up watching and hearing about were tough and confident. Not this team ...

priceless!!!!!

I didn't spin anything. All I asked was "WHAT DOES IT MATTER WHAT THEY SAY" Also I never mentioned anything about the stupidity that happened the last day of the season. I don't care what Buck Showalter does.
Ax, all you do is spin. You spin everything until it seems right in your warped NARROW mind. Bill O'reilly would have as much fun as I do slapping you around

That being said...you didn't even say anything about the post, but as usual (per yankee fan 'logic'), ranted about something completely unrelated:
<< <i>ome on CT, your Curt Schilling says just as many stupid things. The loosey goosey Red Sox can't stand the prima donna ...... so how do comments to the media matter about anything? Curt Schilling's dumb mouth still got you guys a WS championship ...... what does it matter what they say? >>
What does that have to do with ANYTHING about Torre or Arod complaining about the Rangers pulling their best starters? Or about the yankees getting drunk the night before the game?
As usual, you take something that is credible and you try to slam red sox nation with it. Why don't you yankee 'fans' grow up a bit and admit fault once in a while? I mean good god, this was ALL on the yankees, then *you* (not me, moron) try to spin it as somehow being related to the BoSox and Schilling?
On Schilling - the media tried to create controversy a few weeks ago by saying that someone in the clubhouse was fed up with Schilling not getting heat from the fans for his 2005 season. This essentially fizzled out when it couldn't be proven that anyone actually said anything like that. Of course, he has a big mouth - but he generally is right on the money with what he says, and is the first one to criticize himself if he feels he isn't getting the job done. Combine that with all the charity work he and his wife do, and last year's heroic performance in the ALCS and WS, and I'd bet the Sox players put up with his outspoken nature just fine.
The Yanks are setting up their newly woken up bandwagon fans for a quick exit from the playoffs with some early excuses, as all signs point to them getting bashed in Anaheim.
<< <i>Ax, all you do is spin. You spin everything until it seems right in your warped NARROW mind. >>
Pot meet kettle.

I was thinking the same thing...I mean this discussion was about the yankees complaining about something TEXAS was doing, when all they had to do was win a couple more games...and if it was truly that important, why didn't Mussina go Sunday?
But in the middle of this comes softparade and his attempt at diverting attention to Schilling and the Red Sox. Huh? How's that NOT spinning?
Parade (and you other yankee-ites), I know this will come as a shock, but yes, virginia, the yankees CAN and DO make mistakes!

What signs sre these CT? The ones you choose to see? Be careful! Those signs might really be in store for the Sox!
Axtell, you are impossible. I have never said the Yankees players and front office never make mistakes. When did I soapbox child? What you don't see Axtell, is that your hatred for the Yankee organization has blinded you so much that you care more about what they are doing then anything else. Thats fine with me! Hate them all you want, they stand for everything you hate including operating in a true capitalistic way. The New York Yankees stand for everything you hate outside of sports. Nothing more funny than to hear the wails of wacko liberals
I don't hate red Sox nation! I just hate the Red Sox

"Why should the Rangers care about winning for the Yankees, when the Yankees couldn't care less about winning the game for themselves?" (referring to Sunday's game, and Saturday night's Yankee escapades from that article in the Hartford Courant).
Might be the first time ever I agreed with him on something.
