Stupid bids

O.k. i realize how desperately we all want that one card we are bidding on. So i put a "stupid" bid (meaning-so high that no one would bid over this on such a cheap item) and i was outbid on both of them tonight. All i can say is somebody owes me a commission fee for jacking up their auctions. One item at best was worth maybe $15 sold for $60(my stupid bid was $57) and the other in NM booked for around $40 sold for $164 ( my stupid bid was $162). I know both people who made these bids are following what i bid on and are both working to complete their Master Set. But honestly this was ridiculous!!

  • I think that every player set collector has had that happen to them at one or another.

Both those items are very tough. Book value goes out the window on them when they finally come up.

  • On the same subject, my ex wife watches what I bid on & then bumps it up, lil by lil, just to get my attention. Silly but it never goes away. She bid $88 on a 67 common!! In the back of my mind I was hopeing she would get it, to see what she was going to do with it!!

I bid 10X SMR on a basketball card common this week. It is a low pop common card. It sold for 15X SMR at > $150 on eBay. I'm not interested in the regsitry, I just like this common player because he used to play college ball in my hometown. Sadly, this is one case where the set registry and the market prevent me from collecting a card I want, without paying more than I consider sane. Of course, the registry is often great when you want to sell... image
  • If you are getting shilled by your ex old lady, it might be time to get a new user ID!. Man, how long has it been where she is still holding a grudge like that?
  • She thinks it is cute & laughs about it. She has her own damn registry set (pretty good one) & it is surreal to say the least! Almost 2 years.

Can't change name because of feedback & it matches my screen name for just about everything!

I fixed the quote for you.
  • She just won one!!

She just won a card & now, what she gonna do with it?! If it was anybody else, I would laugh, but it is not!!
Guess I will have to have "relations" with her! If it was a 9, I would do it. Y couldn't it have been the Mantle??

  • Splinter,

Get a sniping service for crying out loud! She won't be able to see what you are bidding on.
