2005 Buffalo Nickels--Do they belong in the Buffalo Nickel Sets?

As I was just wandering through the Buffalo Nickel Series in the registry, I started to wonder if the 2005 nickels belong in the set. I know they are different than the original series, however they are still buffalo nickels. I think some of the Jefferson nickel collectors would like to see their series stopped at 2003.

No, because they are not Indian Head/Buffalo nickels. Using that logic (they have a Buffalo) you could include the 2005 Kansas Quarter and 2001 American Buffalo Commemorative Dollar with Indian head nickels.

I would say "no" because they are, as stated, not the same coin. Even with the reverse being a tribute to the prior coin, it is not the same.
However, the Kan SQ and Commem Dollar are poor examples as they are different denominations. The IH Buffalo and the 2005 Buffalo/Bison are at least both nickels so it is a bit closer.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Well what about the buffalo dollar. Pretty much the same except for some minor mods.

It should be treated the same as Lincolns when they went to the memorial reverse. Or as a new series. Note the Washington State Quarters changed both the obv. and rev. We'll have to wait and see what comes to pass with those also. Changing series in coins is a boon for collecting IMHO. Which counts for nothing by the way.

While I like the design (I'm a Buffalo Nickel collector), I consider it part of the Jefferson Nickel series.
