<< <i>Golfers are athletes? Someone quick! Tell John Daly! >>
No, they're atheletes. Can't you read?

O'Axtell - deja vu. You always bring up Daly. Daly had his problems, but we know he would kick your sorry ass on the links. Snead, Palmer, Nicklaus, Woods..et al are atheletes. Get it? No...because you have only played miniature golf. Walk 18 in 90 degree heat and humidity and stroke below par. You have to be an athete to be successful, in addition to skills.
Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!
I am not going to get into this (again) as it's clear my opinion that NO, golf is not a sport, but YES, some golfers are athletes...just because you are an athlete doesn't mean they play a sport.
Golf is a game (in my opinion) and frankly, there's nothing you can ever say to change my mind.
Oh, real mature response to my comment about Daly 'he could kick your ass!'
O'Axtell - why is it not a sport? Sorry you are offended. Daly will kick your ass at golf.... right? I'm sure he would also kick your ass at any "sport" that you think you participate in. That's not juvinile...it's a fact Homer. Let's have your blowhard definition of what is and what is not considerd a sport....so the rest of the world can know and be sure to only follow YOUR definition.

I responded in jest, then you felt the need to turn this into a pissing contest.
Does golf require incredible hand eye coordination and a lot of skill? Yes, but then, so do video games. Are video games a sport? You need hand eye coordination for that, too, as well as a great deal of skill to be good.
To me golf is (and always has been) a game. When you can take out the most demanding physical aspect of the game (walking) and replace it with a golf cart, that's not a sport.
Do I have respect for golfers? Sure, it takes a lifetime of training to be able to hit that lil golf ball and do it well consistently.
Do I think they are athletes? Sure, some are...Tiger, Phil are among the most finely conditioned athletes in the world.
Do I think golf's a sport? Not on your life pal.
I'll say it again...just because you are an athlete doesn't mean the game you play is a sport.
There are some finely conditioned poker players....are they athletes and do they play a sport? The intensity of having thousands and thousands of dollars on the line is as intense of pressure as any golfer would feel, and it takes skill (albeit different ones) to be successful. Is poker a sport?
Look, pal, I don't think golf is a sport, you obviously do. What's the purpose in this exercise?
O'Axtell....please reply. You have not replied to the question as to why golf is not a sport, and what your "definition" of a sport is. You just blather. You acknowledge golfers are atheletes. So why is it not a sport? Clarify..........

Look, I am not getting dragged into this with you. This discussion has been brought up before, my opinion about golf not being a sport will never change.
You think it's a sport - great! More power to you.
Just not sure what your fascination is with why I don't consider it a sport.
I'll say it again - just because you are an ATHLETE doesn't mean the game you play is a SPORT. They can be mutually exclusive.
OK O'Axtell.....case closed. I won't bring it up again....because you refuse to identify what your definition of a sport is.. and why golf is not a sport. You just want to have your position. Ha! See ya Homer.

There's a line from a movie that applies so perfectly, I can't help but post it here, for all to enjoy just how dirty harry must be feeling:
"I hope it feels so good to be right. There's nothing more exhilarating than pointing out the shortcomings of others, is there?"
