The title of this post is a quote from a famous member of this venerable board. (Hint: this member must have said 1,000 times that the Yankees were not going to make the playoffs, and he has yet to acknowledge the great pitching moves the Yankees made when their starting pitching succumbed to injuries and traded for Chacon, brought up Wang from the Minors, and turned Aaron Small into a 10-0 pitcher by having their much maligned Pitching Coach Mel Stottlemyre teach him his Knuckle Ball)
Let me address the Message Title and take this comment about Derek Jeter to task.
(1) Everytime in a key game such as last night, a Playoff, or World Series game Jeter comes through BIG. Last night if Droid Roid had not made that costly error Jeter would have undoubtedly been a hero with his clutch Home Run.
(2) Jeter, if he stays healthy, G-d Willing, will be the first Yankee EVER to have 3,000 hits as a Yankee. Jeter currently has 1,935 hits. Ruth nor Gehrig nor DiMaggio nor Mantle has EVER accomplished this.
(3) Jeter had his 200th and 201st hits today. It is the 4th time in his career that he has had 200 hits or more. Only one other player in Yankee history has more 200 hit seasons and that is Lou Gehrig who has 8. Jeter is only 31 years old.
(4) Derek Jeter is the Captain and Leader of the Yankees. He does not need to wear a "C" on his jersey for his teammates to realize this.
As far as the comment "the Yankees will always fall short". OK, this one does not need to be addressed.
Comments in the title sound like a Bitter Bitter LITTLE man to me.

Gemmy, although I hate the Yankees as I root for the Red Sox in the American League, congratulations on the Yankees winning. I root for the Red Sox but the Cubbies are my real team. The Red Sox really gave me hope last year.
Great post about Jeter too. I agree.
<< <i>Everytime in a key game such as last night, a Playoff, or World Series game Jeter comes through BIG. >>
Jeter's postseason batting average is .306, his regular season batting average is .315. On base percentage in the postseason is .380, regular season .385. Slugging? postseason .456, regular season .463.
There is no statistical evidence to say that Jeter 'steps it up' or comes through 'big' in the postseason. His numbers in both the regular season and postseason are so similar, you cannot say 'he's clutch!' And it's not like the postseason numbers are a small sample size; he has 441 postseason at bats.
<< <i>he will be the first Yankee EVER to have 3000 hits as a Yankee....only one other player in Yankee history has more 200 hit seasons. >>
Uhm, so what? There are a hell of lot of other teams out there, with a lot of BETTER batsmen than Jeter. He's been in the league now 10 years, and has just 5? Ichiro has been in the league 5 years, and has the same number of 200 hit seasons!

If he was such a leader, why wasn't he quelling the crap Sheffield was spewing mid-year? Why didn't he get his lazy ass over to third and let the superior (yes, I said superior) shortstop Arod play his natural position? A real leader would have put his pride aside and let Arod, who was arguably the best FIELDING shortstop in the bigs prior to his move to third, play SS.
Jeter is the product of the NY hype machine. A good player, yes, and a pretty boy playing in NY. Go to baseball-reference.com and see what players rank most similarly to Jeter:
"# Jackie Robinson (859) *
# Ray Durham (853)
# Travis Jackson (842) *
# Mickey Cochrane (830) *
# Buck Ewing (819) *
# Shawon Dunston (818)
# George Grantham (816)
# Edgar Renteria (815)
# Nomar Garciaparra (814)
# Edgardo Alfonzo (814)"
Did/are any of these guys world beaters (with all due respect to Jackie Robinson...who suffered huge obstacles to play), none of these guys are deserving of the hall...and yes, some are in the hall, so don't give me crap about that).
Jeter gets a large amount of undue attention for playing in NY that's been able to buy postseason berth after postseason berth. Of course Jeter is going to appear to have had more postseason hits than anyone, it's because he's had more at-bats than anyone in the history of the game (except Bernie Williams, who has ONE more at bat).
Jeter's not in the top 10 of postseason BA, OPS, SLG, or OBP. The myth of Jeter is just that - a myth.
I have always said Ichiro is a great player. All teams would salivate to have a player of Jeter's leadership and excellence.

So you don't dispute the things I said about Jeter? That he's slightly above average who happens to play for the yankees, so gets a lot of press?
I dispute all of it. That goes without saying.
All you need to know about the very nice player Jeter is summed up quite nicely here -

I'd say exactly the same things, as would most baseball fans outside of Yankee-land, so no sense in repeating them.
Hey for all you know Jeter might have quelled the crap behind closed doors. It stopped, correct? They won the Division. Red Sox fan, go eat crow and have a large piece of humble pie for desert. LOL
jad22, with 96 posts you are new here aren't you? Maybe you are one of the regular's Alternate ID's? Why don't you also help yourself to some crow and a large piece of humble pie to tide you over until tomorrow when the Yankees do their part to force the Red Sox to go to a one game playoff.
<< <i>with 96 posts you are new here aren't you >>
Who cares how many posts someone has? That hardly says anything about his thoughts being valid.
Gemmy you are a petty little man and has a fascination for high numbers. I think that is trying to make up for the low # of your IQ.

This post is my favorite of all time and anybody who needs it as a reference when there is a whole lot of Jeter bashing go on should refer to it.
What a Bitter Bitter Jealous LITTLE man who caused me to write it.
Jeter is your hero, great, whatever but looking objectively at his numbers and he's a slightly above average player. You think he's going to continue to get 200 hit seasons? Why would you think that, he's only done it 5 times in his 11 year career...suddenly he's going to peel off 5 more in a row?
If Jeter played on a team that didn't make it to the postseason every year, he'd be an unknown....Todd Helton, for example, kills Jeter's numbers in EVERY category, but you don't see people saying Helton's heading for the hall.
Jeter is a fraud.
<<Why would you think that, he's only done it 5 times in his 11 year career...suddenly he's going to peel off 5 more in a row?>>
HELLO?!?! Did I ever say that? I am sure he will have some more 200+ seasons but if he stays healthy he has consistently put up 180+ hits and will have 3,000 hits EASY. Jeter's 162 game avarage before this year is
206 hits.
His 162 game average? You're resorting to that?
HE'S HAD ONLY 5 200 HIT SEASONS IN 11 YEARS!
Why can't you get that through your dense skull?

<< <i>Insightful as usual bumpity boy. >>
My condolences axle!
To date only 26 people in Major League History have gotten 3,000 hits or more and at least one of them was on steroids.
<< <i>To date only 26 people have gotten into the HOF in Major League history and at least one of them was on steroids. >>
Huh? There are about 260 HOFers
jad22, there is somebody on this board I would like you to meet. He has been chasing me all over G-d's creation and I can not take the Man Crush anymore but I think you can handle it.
