anyone have 26 grand to throw down?

Gibson Rookie

ive been monitoring this auction since it came up. Once prtheshiningstar threw down his bid, i was gone. Interesting that a no feedback bidder is at the top and is pushing the price upwards...

There are some heavy hitters going for that card. I see where Hallygator would like to upgrade the 1 he already has. Gonna be interesting to see where this one ends up at.

I have been saving my pocket changes for the last 10 years, do you think the seller would accept that type of payment? Seriously, a great card to add to a high end collection.

Doesn't anyone else find it extremely interesting that the seller has a huge "PSA Authorized Dealer" logo prominently displayed...
yet the card he is selling is in a SGC holder!!!

Most of the guy's bidding on that are exclusivly pre war collectors and prefer SGC by a wide margin. It makes sense to target the buyers if possible.

I would imagine any card that valuable would be run by both PSA and SGC.
The owner would then have it graded by the company willing to give it the highest grade.

I agree Scott. A large number of vintage collectors have been flocking to SGC for a while now. This card has been talked about in various forums for about a month that I know of. Its a beauty in that black and green holder.

I've never even heard of this card. I'm assuming it was distributed somewhere other than the U.S., right? It's amazing to me that a card from 1950 can be this rare.

    What a beauty.

    ajw- they are from Cuba.
haleygator bid $25k and they had the former best copy of this card at a sgc 40. They have an amazing collection and are always upgrading so I would not be surprised if they snipe it.

Actually, isn't the card from a Puerto Rican set? Either way, it's an island in the Caribbean where the card of the Negro League great was produced.

Wish I had the cash, that's a great piece of history right there.

When it comes to Zero feedback bidders and pre war, most of the time there is no need to worry. ALot of the higher end collectors use multiple user names so other collectors dont know who is bidding on particular items. ALso dealers will buy with several names and sell with their dealer names.
