Spanish doubloom or reale?

My uncle has a job where he comes in contact and with old stuff and he gets to keep him. Maintenice or something.

He has found a spanish coin from 1794 which he says is stamped off center ( I thikn he means it was striked off center) and it says this:
1794 CAROLUS * IIII * DEL * GRATIA

(TOP CROWN ON THE RIGHT) HISPAN * ET-IND * REX * ME * 2R * T * J

Anyone know what this coin is and its value? He doesnt have a digital camera but he said the coin is worn

Gee, you waited a whole minute for an answer.

It sounds Spanish to me, but sorry, I can't tell you anything about it. Be patient though, someone will get back to you.

That would be a 1794 Two Real from the Lima Mint in Peru.

Do you know how far o/c the coin is?

I didn't ask him that. He told me the coin was stamped off center.

Is off center good? Or is that common in old coins like that?

    Thanks
how much are these coins worth? He said the coin was worn.

BTW, a "doubloon" is a gold coin (denominations in escudos). A "real" is silver (denominations in reales).

As well as late comers - some of us have to work for a living image

Yes it is common for these coins to be struck off center, but generally not very much. As for value, it might be worth a bit more than the Dead One has indicated, but as usual it would depend on condition.

GCL should see some of the response times on the currency thread. If you are in a hurry to get answers, stop collecting coins.
