Ghostowns in arizona

Hi, I live in arizona, near phoenix. I want to know what a good metal detector is to buy (I don't have the money for it now) and if there are some good ghostowns are good places to search in arizona for old gold?

I heard gold is where you find it, i also did some pan searching around parker near a stream once, never found any gold though.

Never owned these but Fisher makes the "Gold Bug" and White's makes the "MXT" (both for gold). I'm sure the other guys here on the board will be able to give you more insight/suggestions.

One problem with Arizona ghost towns is a lot of them are owned by private companies. A lot of them are in copper and other mining operation areas. Often there are gaurds stationed around them. This is not true with all of them but a good friend of mine grew up here, and has stumbled into a few off roading and been "politely" asked to leave. So make sure you know where you are going. And if you see no tresspassing or private property signs listen to them.

Hey I live in Peoria, AZ. I use a White's MXT. Don' t know mcuh about ghost towns other than what I've read on the Internet. I just joined a metal detecting club in Phoenix. Went to first club hunt last weekend in Flagstaff. We pretty much got skunked at an old logging camp. However I did manage to find the back of the case of an old pocket watch with some French engraving on it and at the end of the day one guy did find a 1907 Barber dime.

Arizona Treasure Unlimited is the name of the club. Look them up on the website.

Thanks mdless, I'll look them up. I'm still working and not playing tho. I'd love to get out and search a little. I was hoping to this afternoon in the park by the house for practice but the girlfriend had to go to the doc, so I'll probably stay home with her and clean the house.

I just go really early in the morning befor ethe wife and kids are even awake. I'm a morning person so it's not a big deal to me and at elast I cant get out for a few hours...and it's coler, especially now. Of course that's only on weekends and on vacation days when I take them.

We've talked about moving back to the midwest, but she doesn't like the idea of waking up with me gone duck hunting 60 mornings out of the year. I try to spend mornings with her. We actually talk and get more done early than in the evenings when we are both tired from work. Its our little thing, and I haven't broke it yet. Living on the Mississippi again might change that. I do agree with you its dang hot in the summer during the day.
