Count me in on the Tallboy discussion. I am currently working on a 69 Basketball set in PSA 8 (except for the psa 7 checklist). Between purchases on "the Bay" and the Tallboy submission special I have it down to 19 cards. I sent in 20 cards during the special from my raw set and got back 16 psa 8's and 4 psa 7's. Wish I would have sent in a few more. I have all of the HOF'ers taken care of, and the checklist. Anyone with commons in psa 8 for sale, please email me a list.
I just put up a nice group of 1970 Topps Basketball, and even more 1969 Topps Basketball to list. A lot of stars, Lew Alcindor, Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West and many others..
Always looking for cards i need or for upgrades on my 1969,1970 and 1976 Topps basketball sets. Have some? Post or e-mail me at ezyshooter@sympatico.ca Thanks Steve
I did get all the cards listed, about 25 1970's and about 40 1969's. Check them out, to see if there is something you might need. All are starting at 99 cents with NO RESERVE. And I do combine shipping.
tribe _ nice submission! I am just over 50 percent complete on psa-8 or better '70 set. would love to see some attention in smr to both these tallboy sets. like too many other sets, book prices aren't much help - especially for 9's.
I completed this set on the registry (McGee Collection) a few years back. The prices have really gone down on PSA 8's. My set is all PSA 7 with about 5 PSA 8's. I did pick up the checklist in PSA 7 for a price that I don't won't to mention. I also have a wrapper and an empty wax box to go along with it. It is a great set and isn't too hard to complete except for the Checklist. Good luck!!!
25 cards to go for my 1970 tall boy basketball set psa graded. (McGee Collection). I have been working on this set on and off for about 5 years now and it is finally coming together. The SP's on this set are tough to find. How many card shows do you go to and never see any of these cards.
I have the entire 1969 set in 8's and 9's except 6 cards which I have in 7's(Chamberlain, Goodrich,McGlothglin,Boerwinkle,Haverlick and the checklist). Am looking to upgrade these to 8's if anyone is interested in selling what they might have.
Also, anyone have any suggestions on how to store this set. Too big for plastic sheets and I do not know of any boxes that will hold them. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm also waiting on an 80 card Tallboy sub. sent in to psa in July. The tallboys always seem to take 2-3 month's to grade for some odd reason. It's almost like PSA sets aside one day per month to grade them. Or maybe it's one day every two month's to grade them! This waiting nearly three month's for grades to pop is for the birds.
here ya go on some nice pics of packs that I have had for some time--got them in the mid-'90s raw. The '69 packs(got 3 in all) came from Mastro...the '70 packs(also got 3) came from a dealer in NJ...cannot believe that they did not see the Maravich on back!
I have a 100% complete 1970 Topps set with probaly the lowest weighted grade on the list. Really need to start updating it as I love the Tallboys. My 1969 Topps set is also 100% complete on the SGC Registry. Upgrades also needed when finances allow. I dont know if anyone brought it up but the Inserts that were put in the wax packs (1969 Rulers/1970 Posters) were also unique and are coveted by BBall collectors.
Even with all the Tallboy specials over the last year, the 70 Topps sure aren't as readily aveailable as I had hoped they would be. Prices seem so up and down with a Maravich 8 couple months back seelling at $282 and then one selling this last week for $565....nuts! All I know is that I need some cards!!! Help!
I just got back my tallboy submissions, Damn they were harsh I expected mostly 8's & some 9's I got many 5's 6's & 7's NO 9's Ridiculous How did you all do on your tallboy submissions?
Honestly, between the lower grades being given and what 8's are selling for i don't think sellers are interested in grading them. If PSA 8's are not getting 9.99 opening bid then what's the point getting them graded ?? 9's are hard to come by and even they are not selling that great unless they are SP's. I think dealers are going to hold off on these years until collectors start paying more for 8's and 9's. JMHO Steve
I saw a bunch of 69' basketball psa 8's last weekend that finished in the mid to low 30's. I wanted to put some bids in but I already had some bids in on other things.
How does SGC or GAI encase the rulers/posters? I mean, they are obviously folded, but do they attempt to show as much of the item as possible? Are they actually graded, or are they simply encased?
Have been struggling to put together the 1969 and 1970 sets. I can't understand why the 1969 Goodrich card is so hard to find given the population report.
Ezyshooter you have put together an impressive set. How did you leapt so quickly up the charts? Did you find a stash of cards somewhere?
Regards, Yieldhog (aka, The Watchorn Collection - PSA Registry)
Actually i can thank Mint State for that. Not to mentiom names but a well known collector came in with a bunch of 9's knowing the value and Mint State recommended me because i have sent Pop 1 cards his way for other collectors. So me and this other guy worked out a cash deal for 38 PSA 9's i needed. Paid over 4,000 for the 9's but alot were SP , Stars or lower pop cards. I just want to get to the #2 set and knock you know who down a knotch. No way i'll be #1. Not enough cards in that high grade and not enough money on my part to pay for those cards. Your set is coming along great. I have a few tallboys to send in myself. Hoping for a couple 9's. Steve
Michael, welcome back to the boards...although we've talked, haven't seen you out here...I think you can bring so knowledge to the boards with the sets you are working on!
Steve!!! Have you been in hiding?? Figured you had taken a break from the 70 Topps for a while to give the rest of us a chance to pick up some cards. You got any Hondo's in PSA 8 laying around that need a good home? If so, I could use one!
Anybody else, I'm down to needing just 10 cards in the 70 Topps Bkb set in all 8 or better and if ANYONE has any that I could use, PLEASE drop me a line. I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks! Tim (70 Topps Hadley Legacy on the registry)
I might if PSA has a special on tallboys soon. Was hoping this special would have included 1970 and up. It includes tallboys but from 1972. I have a Pat Riley that i am hoping for a PSA 9. Card looks better then my PSA 9. I've been busy doing the card holders on my walls. Yes walls !! 3 of my walls in my basement are basically just covered with my graded sets. I built ledges out of 7/16 X 7/16 wood and screwed that into the 2 X 4's. Then added 1/8 X 3/4 X 8 feet long chrome piece so that it gave a lip at the top and bottom. I'll take some pics in the near future and post them. Steve PS. Haven't done much with the 70 set because of what's out there !! Tried trading but really have no 1970's to trade with right now.
mr yieldhog sorry for not responding fast.. the rulers are graded and encapsulated in full length. Similar to the unopened pack case. I have a few 8's. The case is about 12" long...big !!!! I still have been saving a few rulers that are pristine- barely ever unfolded. I rarely if ever see them for sale or even graded. Not sure if hey are currently being graded. I am not doing the rulers set. But love them as an odity.....jay

And speaking of the goodrich rc psa.....that's the only 1969 hofer rc I need. I thought I had bid enough for the one that was on ebay last week. woah !!! It went for about $600 way more than I imagined. Seems a psa 7 is no big deal....

Steve, won't it be kinda freaky having all those people watching you while you shoot pool??? I gotta admit, that's gotta be both the strangest yet coolest way to display a set I've ever seen. Hope you don't have an earthquake!!
1970 Basketball must be dead. I recently listed 11 literally minty pack fresh cards and they mostly went for the opening bid of .99. 1970 Bsktb completed listings
I couldn't let this go an entire year without topping it. I'm on the lookout for one last card to complete my 70 Topps set in all PSA 8/9 nq. Just need a centered Maravich 8 and I can put this baby to rest. I think there has only been one out there that I've liked in about the last 6 months and I'm still kicking myself for not picking it up. I believe it sold for under $350. If anyone has one they are interested in parting with, please let me know! Thanks! Tim
After all these years, first time I see this thread, I am still stuck in my 1969 set, Have not added a card in years now. I always seem to get outbid for 5 of the 7 that I need . 7 TOM BOERWINKLE 14 JON MCGLOCKLIN 20 JOHN HAVLICEK 84 HAL GREER 89 BOB 89 BOB BOOZER I had assume after time they would go for less, but they now go for more(the boozer would actually go for more before) I haven't really tried getting the Jabbar or Checklist, since I want to get them after. My 1969 Set
What is interesting is that 5 PSA 8 Goodrich cards were placed on ebay in January and Feb, before that sometimes not even one would go for sale in a year. Also instead of the going down in price like usually cards go, the Goodrich have all gone for more.

I also collect the 69 set and pricing is all over the place. The pop report sometimes does not have any bearing on the sale price. Very, Very strange. I am patient with this set. I don't think collectors should over pay for these cards. They may be crying in the end if they do. Also. very hard to store. PSA should have made the holder smaller. The first time I bought a slabbed 65 football card my wife and I laughed at the size of the holder when it came in the mail. It's really overkill. If anyone needs some of the 69's I have a few doubles in 7 and 8. I also need some for my set.
I am putting together a RAW 1970 set. Ex-Mt or better is all I need ... no creases or wrinkles and decent centering. Does anybody have any they want to get rid of? THANKS!
STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Any opinions on the 69/70 set auctioned by Mastro a few years ago (might have been dec 2007). The whole set was 8's and 9's...including 9 Jabbar, Chamberlain, and most of the big rookies and stars (think the checklist too). Like 80 PSA 9's and 19 8's, something like that.
Sold for $45k or so (don't remember). But I think it was the highest grade set I've seen sold. Did anyone get any cards from that set? It was cool pullout in the catalog, you could see most of them.
just traded a PSA-10 Jim Davis card that I bought raw in the mid 90s for about $10. It is 1 of only 26 PSA-10s out of over 20,000 graded. It was part of a trade where I gave up that card and cash and got 21 graded '61 Fleer basketball cards. I got $1,500 for the PSA-10
