The PERFECT scam--when good sellers go bad.

This is inspired by the related thread: "How is this guy still a power seller?"

Has it ever occurred to anyone that the best scam on E-bay would be to build up fantastic feedback over the course of a couple of years--I'm talking 2000+ positives--and whammo! Turn into a thief over night. I think that's what this guy did: The devil made me do it.

This seller had pretty good feedback. He decides to run a bogus dutch auction. Collects a couple of grand via Paypal, then sends all the crappy cards out all at once (even if several weeks late). It's the perfect crime. NOBODY saw it coming because nobody had the opportunity to leave negative feedback.

Evil genius?

  • It's sad that Ebay has no standards for their sellers. Why is he still in business with 86% feedback?

They only review the sellers account once every 90 days. I was a power seller for 90 days. Then because I only sold $2900 in 3 months, instead of $3k I was removed. That occurred as I had more than $4500 in auctions end...of course they asked me back as a power seller and I told them to shove it. They won't ban this guy until his "renewal date" comes up... All a power seller has to do is sell an average of $1000/mo for 3 months, maintain 98% positive feedback and pay their ebay bill...other than that, there are no other requirements. Ridiculous.

What do people think that they are going to get an Ipod or PSP for $29.95? Or is he just selling them the information on how to obtain one of those items cheaply?

The seller supplies a web link for $29.95.

  • Although he may just be supplying the buyers with the web link,
he should state it clearly. His 2 line description is vague and misleading.
