beware ***NEW PHISHING TECHNIQUE***

There is a new technique that email scammers are using to get access to your ebay id and password. In this method, they send a note from another user asking a question about your item. When you use the respond now feature, it collects your ebay id and password and you are then hosed pretty good. I entered in a fake id and password and it accepted it as real and then asked my to type my response.

This looks authentic when you get it...so dont get scammed!

Regards,

Alan

I just got that one a few minutes ago, and it looked pretty real- especially if you have auctions running. Beware!

Definately only plan on responding via the "My Messages" link. The scammers are still currently just being lazy. There is no reason they can't immediately check your credentials with Ebay and let you know if you've entered bad passwords.

If your Ebay and Paypal passwords are not different and complex (preferably alphanumeric) please update them.

I never follow a link from an email to a password protected account. If you do, do what the orignial poster did and give a fake id/password. Otherwise just log in to Ebay or any other site like you normally would. If what the email said is true and important there should be something when you login.

This really isn't good enough though. The scammers could easily send the user/password combo to Ebay and return the appropriate page if they are legit to you or re-ask for your creds if they are wrong.

Just changed my PayPal. Thanks for the suggestion.

    I changed it to "X34yb32r".

    Think that's good enough?

    (seriously, good idea.)
  • I thought Ebay and Paypal had to be the same password. I guess that was just Naxcom and Paypal if your transferring funds. Thanks.
