  • I put in what I considered a "low ball" bid. I have a few other cards on my "radar" this week that took priority. The card went for less than I thought it should have. I thought that card would have gone between $400-$500. I agree though, it is a beauty.

Something to consider. Place a low ball bid on vintage football and be prepared to get out bid. Many buyers with deep pockets bidding on vintage football. Nothing like OPC baseball with only a few buyers looking for a steal.

Thats bull! I didn't think a bid of $156.01 was trying to steal anything! Go stuff it!

edit: current SMR is $200 for commons! (My bid was just a little under 80% of SMR value, and that's not trying to steal anything!)

Why are you so angry? If the market for that card 2X,3X,4XSMR, then that is a bottom feeder bid.
    SMR doesn't reflect the market.

I'm not angry with my $156 bid, I just that your "digs" suck, that is all! (i.e., "bottom feeder bid", "...Nothing like OPC baseball with only a few buyers looking for a steal", "place a low ball bid").

edit: jayhawke, I bought my share of PSA 9 Bowmans, maybe more than some of those guys with, what did you call them, "many buyers with deep pockets"...

Take it as a dig, but it wasn't. Maybe the market has changed since you bought your share of Bowman PSA 9's. Maybe people bidding 2X,3X,4X SMR don't have deep pockets and they just want the card. Whatever. Instead of trying to read between the lines, just read the post for what it was.

Edited-I never said it was a bad thing to place a low ball bid, just don't expect to win.

The SMR is behind on much of vintage football.

I lost out on an auction for an 1954 Bowman Atkins RC PSA 8. It went for $338.33, I was the underbidder at $5 less.

    SMR? $90. That's more than 3x over.

Although I'm not collecting vintage football, I can appreciate great cards and that is an absolute beautiful card.
