Visit to Cooperstown

I just returned from vacation and a stop at the Baseball Hall of Fame. What a great experience! When I finally stepped into "The Hall" itself with the plaques lining the walls, I actually got a little choked up. I also read with much delight a comment about Babe Ruth - it said something to the effect that the Babe was so good for baseball and the fans. He was always taking time to talk to the kids, signing autographs, making charity appearances. He gladly talked to fans in restaurants, on the street, at the park, etc. It said he was the best PR for baseball that the game could hope for. I thought to myself: "How many players today could we say the say thing?" I guess that's why I pretty much quit following baseball in the seventies...

Oh, and I bought this jersey in the shop there: imageimage

Edit in: I guess I don't know how to add a pic... any advice?

Edit: Ok, I figured out how to add a pic-

    Mutt,
The HOF is a great place - when I was there the hush and atmosphere was like walking into a cathedral. Awesome.

I thought to myself: "[about] How many players today could we say the same thing?" I guess that's why I pretty much quit following baseball in the seventies...

It's easy to say that, and I'm as a big a fan of the old days as there can be, but it's not fair to class players like Hershiser and Ripken and some of the other truly "nice" guys in baseball with some of the sourpuss superstars of today. You could run over Tommy Lasorda with a Mac truck and he'd smile and give you an autograph on his way up. As they say, take what you like and leave the rest behind.

Tommy Lasorda signed an autograph for my brother in spring traing and then, instead of handing it back to him, threw the ball over the fence into the parking lot........
  • I am glad you enjoyed it!

I saw Lasorda do a similar thing at Dodger Stadium.
Great guy when the cameras are running, horrible when they aren't.
Bill Russell is still trying to get the knife out of his back that Lasorda stuck in there....
