Update: 17th to Mid-19th Century European Crowns & Thalers Collection to Be Photographed &

This is my first post on the World & Ancient Coins Forum, although I've been a regular on the U.S. Coin Forum for a couple of years.

WorldCoinGuy recently posted photos two Salzburg Talers are exactly the type of World Crown that I find most interesting:
    1. From a coinage time period minting process -- i.e. rolled through a press
    2. Beautiful detailed design
    3. Historical event commemoration significance
    4. Large precious metal crown - like the U.S. Silver Dollars and Gold Double Eagles that I also love to collect
I have an old collection of World Crowns that I will photograph and will submit to PCGS for certification within the next 6 months. After photographing the coins, prior to submitting them, I'd like to post the photos here on the World Coins forum for others to help me attribute.

I purchased these coins during the early to mid-1980's, and some are really beautiful. Now that I've got my U.S. Coin collection pretty well organized and catalogued, it's time for me to do the same for my World Crowns & Thalers.

Thanks in advance for whatever assistance you may be able to provide me with attributing these coins dating from 17th Century to mid 19th Century.

1Jester: Although I may be a recent "convert" for World Coin Forum purposes, as I mentioned in my post I've been collecting European Crowns & Thalers since the early 1980's.

Most of them were purchased from a World Coin Dealer friend of mine named James F. (Jim) Elmen, owner of Wordwide Coins of California located in Santa Rosa California. Do any of you world coin collectors or dealers know Jim?? I even purchased some of the German Crowns from the late Tom Hamilton from ym hone state of Georgia. He had loads of beutiful German States Crowns!!

I've got various Austrian Empire, German States, Russian, Salzburg, etc. Corwns & Thalers, including a beautifully toned Mexican 1780 Charles III 8 Reales which I believe would grade somewhere in between MS-63 to 65.

WorldCoinGuy: It was fun hand-picking each coin for both quality and beautiful design type. There are some really beautiful World Crowns out there for the collecting.

As promised earlier in this thread, I plan to photograph approximately 30-40 of these foreign coins over the weekend, and would like to request some guidance and assistance from you my fellow forum members, to help me decide which are the "Top 24" I should submit to PCGS for certification.

Thanks in advance for your assistance with this -- it should be lots of fun!!

Does Jim Elmen have a website?

As promised, here's an update to this thread on my progress... So far, I have catalogued and photograped my foreign coin collection, and am preparing the "Top 24" for the first submittal to PCGS.

Here's the first coin photo post. This 1653 Saxony Taler - Johann Georg I (Dav-7612) appears to be in Choice Mint State condition to me, and looks much prettier in hand than in this rather dull and lifeless photo. We'll see what PCGS has to say.

I'd appreciate any of your comments about the coin, since I am not a learned "Dark Sider" image

Nice taler. Is there any evidence that it had a mount removed at 12:00?

Don: None that I can detect with certainty. It appears to be a weakly struck (or rolled) edge portion of the planchet.

Sometimes it is very difficult to see if it was mounted. From experience, if there is any doubt the TPG will BB a coin. If the coin is Unc. then it probably wasn't mounted. Either way, that is one awesome taler.
