OMG!! I'm turning into a darksider!

Well kinda. I bought the 2004 and 2005 2 pound silver Britannia coins at the San Francisco ANA. I liked the designs. I just ordered a bunch more from the series from Silver Eagle Coins. I now collect US coins, US currency, and British Britannia silver. What is next for me?

    I just got the 2002 Britiish Ladies of Liberty set a few days ago. This is the same as the American Legacies of Freedom set which arrived today. I may talk to the people across the street to get these sets in their own multiple coin holder.

    You'll start dabbling in Brit proof sets. You'll really like the 1953 set and decide to pick up a Krause catalog. While browsing the book you'll have an OMG moment when you realize that you can pick up early 20th Brit century proofs for under $100. You may even notice that cameos don't really bring a strong premium. Before long you'll branch out into countries of your ancestry and maybe where you took an enjoyable vacation or two. next you'll pick up something really special, I'm guessing a cartwheel 2 pence of George III. the thought will cross your ming that you can buy lots of really great stuff if you sell of your US collection. By then its all over - I see it coming a mile away.image

    Yes, this is a highly probable scenario. Don't try to fight it...image It's futile.

    Nice! Those Polish coins under Russian occupation are not exactly common.

    That is quite possible too, in which case you'll dump the US immediately and not waste time slowly sliding into it. image

    Ah the Britannias they seem to bring quite a few people over (i don't rate them much myself as i prefer the classics but hey they do their job so you can't knock them).

    May i suggest you go to google and type in 'Gothic Florin' and click search.

    Here's a few others to try;

    Gothic Crown
    Una and the Lion five pounds
    1826 five pounds

    In fact if you want to see British coinage over the years, look no further;

    It's happening to me. (Except I'm not all that focused on area. I did US type, knowing I'd always be most of the 18th century away from completion. It's now starting to occur to me that world type may be a choice substitute... image ) BTW~ I'm at the "I have an awful lot of money locked up in my US type, I could get some really amazing world if I sell it..." stage. (Loooooooong sigh) Decisions, decisions...
  • Decisions indeed. The two questions to ask yourself are;

    1) Will you regret selling them?
    2) Do US coins give your more enjoyment?

    If you answer 'no' to both then sell them, if you answer 'yes' to both then don't.

    If you come to a 'yes/no' scenario or a 'don't know' then i'd fence sit a bit, come back to it later. You won't lose anything with patience, i doubt the US coins will go down in value. Prices seem to be getting more and more crazy on the liteside.
