There is about $86.50 worth of gold in a 20 Franc, an angel is a little more desireable than a Rooster, so I think $98 sounds just about right.

    Definitely an "or what".

He likes to sell coins. You said you had a certain amount to spend, so he didn't waste his time (or yours) by telling you about the many, many coins he has priced at more than your budget. Instead, he did what a good salesman would do - offered you what he had within your budget.

He is a very well known, very competent honest dealer, like many others out there. Don't be paranoid.

Having bought from Clark Smith myself, I would not be surprised if he dropped his retail price a few dollars to meet your budget....

There actually good people out there from time to time.
  • Oh he's a good guy. I've been working with him on a nice piece.

I have purchased a couple of expensive coins from Clark. Both times I was extremely happy with the coin (and the price).

With gold as high as it is,, I would be happy for $98 (and many dealers would charge over $100).

Enjoy. You made a good purchase from Clark.

Clark is a great dealer. I bought a lot if Central American gold from him when I was going through that phase!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • << <i>Why doesn't he answer all my questions? He doesn't show me a picture of it, any legit buyer would want a picture, I don't care how trustworthy he is, I want to see the coin, secondly , it isn't on his site, and he didn't answer that question either. >>

Here is the deal. Tomorrow afternoon, when I get home from work, I am going to call Clark. If he still has this 1895 French Angel, I will give him my credit card information and buy it from him, sight unseen. Once I get it, I will be glad to provide you with as many pictures of the coin as your hard-drive can choke on!!

I have bought and sold many coins without seeing them, it is something that happens every day in this business. I suspect he may not be answering your questions because he is very busy and please keep in mind that he is only making about $10 if that on this deal, perhaps he is busy selling $100,000 worth of coins to another dealer.

Stupid people. I wanted helpful information not to hear other people will buy it instead of me. I'm only 17 and barely have enough for this give me a break, this is ridiculous.

And if you continue to make comments like this, you will continue to get the responses you deserve.

As aethelred patiently responded, many coins are bought sight unseen. Like humans, there are many coins that look a whole lot better on camera than they do in reality (and vice versa).

    GCL-

I'll boil it down, nice and simple.

    Behave yourself, or buzz off.

Read more and post less. Grow up. Please. Your last crybaby antics here were enough- it is a wonder anyone bothered to speak to you anymore.

You sent me a PM out of the blue the other night, asking me why I hated you. I found it really strange, since I had responded little to any of your posts and I never said I hated you, to you or anyone else.

But your childish and frankly insane posting drowns out the few good posts you make, and your attitude is what has gotten you hated by many people here.

GCL - Two bits of advice:

    1. If you want a coin don't post information on who is selling it or for how much it in a public forum. I would never buy a coin from under someone, but the rules of the game are that the forst person to show up with cash in hand takes it home unless you have been specific in stating that you intend to buy it.

    2. The people here are among the kindest and most helpful you will encounter. They are honest and forgiving, if you alienate them it will be to your own detriment.

If anyone is masochistic enough to continue clicking into this thread, could you please give a link or other contact info for this Clark Smith fella? Sounds like a good dealer to me and I'm in the market for gold!

Might wind up posting them before the next upload so I can get help, instead of uploading once a month for the next ten years image But at least it seems my icons are popular! Preussen and RobertB have my german ones and I saw someone with my old Romania... I'm running out of options! image
