    Thanks, we got this coin from my wife’s grandmother. It was in a group of family coins that went back to the early 1800s in New Jersey. I never knew for sure, but thought it was 1778

    I think 1738 is a fairly common date. That happens to also have been the date on the only King George halfpenny I ever dug here in the US, while metal detecting.
