Sweet Lou Done in Tampa Bay

From this link:

Linkidy Dinkidy

"Lou Piniella's rocky tenure in Tampa Bay appears to be over. Two sources speaking on condition of anonymity told The Tampa Tribune that Piniella will not return as the Devil Rays manager next season."

Too bad. He's one of the most underrated managers of this generation, fiery, and gets results. Hopefully he gets another managing gig, but I suspect his tenure in tampa and having no players has really soured the taste of it for him.

  • I actually thought he would stick it out one more year. They have a lot of good young talent defensively and hitting, but pitching sucks (except for Kasmir). I think they will win 85 games next year. Hopefully their ungrateful fans will support them as well!!

Perhaps he believes the Yanks won't make the playoffs and there will be an opening shortly thereafter?
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

I dont know about lou! but that young pitcher you got pitched a heck of a game so far tonite! this kid is the real deal. enjoy him while you can bc the big market teams will be all over him when he turns to free agent.

Steinbrenner would be nuts to fire Torre. The Yanks would be a .500 team under most other managers.
  • I would welcome either Torre or Pinella to the Cubs.
  • Pinella is paving the way to come to the Yankees. Torre will bow out gracefully (win or lose) at the end of the year, take a year rest and then return as the new commissioner of baseball....

    Agreed

I don't know about under .500 but surely not as good. A message for George....:the grass is always greener on the other side.....

Piniella has already had 2 stints as a Yankee manager in the 1980's during Boss George's a-manager-a-day days.

    Bollocks.

Look at Torre's record as a manager prior to coming to the highest payroll, err, I mean the yankees, and you'll see he's a mediocre manager at best.

He was a .477 manager before coming to the yankees, and that's over 1900 games.

Torre wasn't the reason the yankees returned to prominence...they were already on their way before Torre got there, when Showalter turned them around but got run out of town.
  • Orioles need to get Piniella in Baltimore and then get rid of Angelos.
