Culpepper and the Vikings

I never bought into the hype surrounding Culpepper. Honestly, the big reason is because of the McNabb bashing from Vikings fans on these boards, and my response was always the same: McNabb never had the receivers like Culpepper did. Before Owens, McNabb still put up numbers and rarely made mistakes - his INT ratio is amongst the best of all time. More importantly, he usually led the Eagles to a victory.

Culpepper on the other hand is 0-2 w/o Moss. He ended last weekend's loss with two interceptions in the final two series; he had four in the second half Sunday. Six turnovers in eight second half possessions? I feel bad for those of you who picked him in the first round.

Don't get me wrong, Tice is not a good coach and that is partly the reason the Vikings are 0-2. But is Culpepper really as good as everyone has said he was? Moss is gone, and with it the Vikings offense - Burleson is way overrated, and secondaries now can play man to man on the Viking wideouts. The big play possibility is almost a non factor, the running game is in shambles, and Culpepper may not be able to run as a linebacker will be on him now.

I'd have to put a good deal of the responsibility on the new offensive coordinator, and the fact that they aren't going to the running game.

Part of the blame of course is going to go to Culpepper, as he's making some horrible decisions, but factor in the new O coordinator too.
  • Cant argue with the seasons start, but look at his past years... He IS good, one of the best. Struggling for whatever reason now, Coaches, changes, defenses, but he will be ok. Burelson is NOT overated, some are just expecting him to take Moss' spot, and he cant. But he is a #1 wideout in this league.

The season is young, they can turn this thing around.......
