I never have seen a box of these available for sale, I thought they were distributed to troops, etc. in loose form...

Looks to me like he just put 36 packs together and stuck them in a regular 91 Topps wax box.

They were distributed in boxes and went fast - I was in Kobar Towers in SA and they didn't stay around very long!

Doesn't take long for word to spread!

I'm pretty sure they were free. The whole point was to be a morale builder, and kind of a goodwill thing done by Topps. I can't imagine Topps charging $2/pack to troops in a war zone.

If you mean now, I would think about $40.

I was paying $50 per pack from a former soldier about 3 months ago. I made about 30% profit on 20 packs after grading, but I think interest has cooled off slightly since then.

Maybe the appeal is in getting a full sealed box...

To me, $2,700 for a box of 1991 Topps cards is a bit insane, but to each his own.

People prefer to buy the box, if possible - because it alleviates a lot of the risk of pack tampering, counterfeits, etc.

Saw a pack of desert shield on BBCE for $75. So I guess you could get more than $40/pack.
