Minimaster, My thoughts are probably similar to everybody else out there that might have interest in this lot. Set your bid at a price you are comfortable paying and not a penny higher. My guess is this one might end with the zero feedback bidder winning it. Its a very nice lot. I am one who doesnt care for setting reserves on auctions whether Im selling or buying but I think I would have put one on this lot. We shall see in a few days if the seller is really willing to let this lot go. Very nice offering of 74s!!!
I thought the same thing with the ID. I don't think the lot is being shilled, I think someone may be trying to create the illusion that it is and scare off bidders. I would have cancelled the sheller555 bid automatically. I would have also set a reserve on this lot at the minimum I would accept and stated so in the auction. EXAMPLE: I have set a reserve of xxxx.xx on this lot and will not accept less.
Yes, I got a chuckle out of the ID title of the Zero feedback bidder myself....LOL Seems unlikely that this item would be involved in a shill bidding scam all things considered? I bid just prior to the Zero feedback bidder and if it is set up as an illusion....it's working I have no interest in being bid up by Zero and Single feedback bidders I believe I would also cancelled such a bidder for the very fact that in combination with the Zero feedback the ID name sounds a little to close to someone trying to stop other seasoned bidders from bidding. Conspiracy theory perhaps.... but If I'm trying to sell a legit lot of high end cards......why take the risk of having someone messing with your auction and perhaps reducing the number of bidders?
Perhaps the Seller will come back to this thread and express his opinion on these concerns?
After seeing the updated bidding pattern.... Im done watching this one and will not be placing a bid. As a seller you could not be happy with what is taking place. Im aware that as an ebay bidder you have to start at zero to build your feedback but your first couple of purchases are not usually of the 5,000.00+ range. If somebody is trying to scare of potential bidders.....its working. I dont like the looks of this one.
I decided to take a look at the thread (Spam) I started and after reading replys just wanted to comment on the bidding. While I dont like like to see zero feedback bidders, for the reasons above, I will say that I am not getting too concerned yet as those bids are at a level which could not win this auction. If I saw a zero bidder with a leading bid of 7000 then I would be much more concerned. A lot of times people like to bid just for the sake of bidding even though they know they cant possibly win, especially in featured auctions. Worst case scenario though is that it is somebody is indeed trying to screw me, I have had it happen before and I suspect some of you may have as well. Another possibility is that the bidder, for various potential reasons, just doesnt want his identity to be revealed. A thought I had was that a few months ago a guy "rolls227" who is in the 1974 market once sent me a nasty email saying I was paying too much for 1974s and blah blah blah and it was just basically a mean spirited email because he was mad he was losing so many auctions to me and wanted me out of the market. Maybe he wants my lot but doesnt want to me to know its him or maybe hes the one trying to screw me. Anyway, in all likelyhood it probably has nothing to do with him but it is a thought that crossed my mind. Hopefully itll all turn out alright and this auction will get the price it deserves.
It's come to the fair price now. lmayer puts in a fair bid and would have without the sheller. If lmayer is the underbidder you usually have done well.
Sometimes we start a discussion before it is time to do so I believe your assessment regarding bidders that bid just to bid and know they will not win the item is more plausible than other theory's mentioned You are definately getting some very nice bids now. Almost 71% of SMR at this point and it appears this may not be the final bid yet
Yeah..congrats to the winner who in the last six months has purchased some bottles of fragrances. Look out you top 74 guys, there is new player in 74 baseball. At least the cards will smell good.
Please no congratualtions just yet.... If you look at his feedback, will you see that he has an NPB. Whats even more troubling though is if you look at his feedback LEFT FOR OTHERS, it says something about somebody else using his name to bid and he never gets notices blah blah blah. I have emailed him to see when and how he intends to pay. Hopefully he'll respond soon.
Start communicating with the underbidders. You have three bidders at or over $6,000. One of them has to want it, and I think that would represent a pretty darn good sale.

I'd bid on it if it weren't for the fact that I've got the '72 and '75 mini sets going.

Dakota,
What's your thoughts on this new eBay account with Zero feedback bidding on this lot?
