Bonds...What's up?

He is back and hit #704. Do you think he was really injured to the point he could not return until now? Or did he lay low to get the roids out of his system?

I'm guessing he was extra cautious with his knee and not wanting to go in for surgery #4.

He now says he will lose some weight as not to put pressure on the knee. He is 228lbs and wants to go down to 200lbs. He was 185lbs when he first came up to MLB. There will be a slimmer Bonds in the near future when he trains in the winter.

Of course, the cynic might say this is all a cover up of quitting steroids and resulting in a lighter look.

    Consider me a cynic.

He's saying that he has to lose the weight in order for his knees to continue.

Uhm, I agree, that it's simply a way for him to cover up the bulk loss from losing the juice.

  • LOL. A svelte now look for Barry.

Me a Barry cynic too. I think it would be hard pressed to find a person who isn't.

Barry must have his fans somewhere (maybe in San Fran?), but you'd be hard pressed to find any in the rest of the country. I was hoping he would just stop playing, and leave the big two atop the HR record, just like it is now.

I thought he would too, but when I heard he had $18 million upcoming this next year, I knew he's stick around for it.

  • I predict his body including his head will get smaller.

However his brain will continue to swell.

Bonds will do a "Giambi" and hit better than expected. Despite my or anyone's opinion the guy has great mechanics and will hit 30-40 plus a season in the next few years. This will compensate for the loss of the juice. He will blame his age and injuries for not hitting 60.

Do I think he delayed his comeback for chemical reasons? Certainly.

Does it matter now that many have been caught and MLBs failure to address the problem sooner has been uncovered? No.

Is Jose Canseco still a self serving idiot? Oh yeah.

There's no way Bonds hits more than 20 next year.

He is no longer a threat to catch Aaron...I suspect he'll collect his 18 mil next year, pass Ruth, and call it a career.

  • That I would not doubt.

It's real conspiracy stuff but would not surprise me if MLB and Bonds reached an agreement. He takes off and is not uncovered for roid use. In exchange he retires after passing Ruth but not Aaron.

There are two sides to the benefit for MLB. What is more attractive, keeping Aaron's untainted record or letting the comotion die down and having a new HR leader? If MLB finally handles the roid issue well then letting Bonds play may be a more financially attractive option. Don't think that ethics trumps dollars here. That's how they got into this trouble after the strike.

Personally I'd prefer to see Hank keep the record but don't think it will happen.
