1966 Gale Sayers Rookie Card

I have seen several PSA 8's of this card and there seems to be a rough cut on the right side of the card. Is this common for this card? In the August 2004 SMR they highlight this card and the picture they have shows this rough cut very clearly. The reason for this question is, I have bid on a Sayers Rookie Card that ends today and it has that rough cut. Just curious.

I don't know for sure, but that's not the first example I've seen with that cut (and on the right side)

As a matter of fact, I have a PSA 7 in my watch list that ends in five days and it has the same "problem"

I realize I've been absolutely no help but thought I'd chime in with another example.image

Edited to say: if you click on my link, hold your cursor over the bottem left of the sayers card and you can enlarge the picture to see the rough cut.
  • My PSA 9 has a rough cut on the right side as well and it sounds like that is a common attribute on the better centered print runs... doesn't bother me one bit and I don't view it as a problem, although the back of my particular example reveals slight chipping on the back on that same edge as a result. I view the rough cut as proof that the card has not been altered or trimmed... and yes, PSA DOES miss a trimmed card once in a while, law of large numbers I suppose.

    Hope that helps

it's very common for most of the 66 philly's Here are 2 examples, both of which were pulled from packs. The 8 doesn't have one but unfortunately this scan was before I bought a new scanner so the scan isn't great . the 7 has a light rough cut that is more obvious when looking from the back

  • That 7 looks gorgeous packCollector! Candidate for a regrade perhaps...?

alohaet, the card was sold a while back. I got about $250 for it , much more than a 7 usually sells for. I sent it twice but the top left corner was pinchedever so slightly ( you can see it on the back scan), it was the 2nd to last card on the bottom from a cello pack. even though I got top dollar for a 7, it is one of the few cards that I regret selling as the card was perfrect otherwise with that pack fresh dripping gloss.
