Friedrich Wilhelm Nikolaus Karl (1831-1888) was the son of Prince Wilhelm (later Kaiser Wilhelm I) of Prussia. In 1858, Friedrich Wilhelm married Princess Victoria, daughter of Queen Victoria. Friedrich Wilhelm distinguished himself as a military commander during the Austro-Prussian War of 1866, and again during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. Upon the death of his father in March 1888, Prince Friedrich Wilhelm became Friedrich III, German Kaiser & King of Prussia. At the time of his accession, Friedrich was suffering from throat cancer. He died 99 days later and was succeeded by his infamous son, Kaiser Wilhelm II. - Preussen
