  • Why what?
  • why a 5? if that is your question probably because all of the corners except the bottom left show wear.

Is it that if there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong?

Usually a minor surface wrinkle causes a 5. It may be tough to see, and you definitely won't see it in a scan.

    It got a 5 because it's a 5.

All 4 corners show wear. that card is a true ex card. nice example imo

I doubt that this card has a wrinkle. In many cases cards that show no wear but get a five do.

    hi end for the grade.

edited to add : a little OC but still a very nice example. perfect for a mid grade set.

If that's a 5, then mine must be one of those "High end" 5's I keep reading about on eBay... image

    Who is Rober Maris?
  • Sorry, the why was regarding the $421 current bid which I assume doesn't include the 17.5% buyers premium. I collect 55's specifically in PSA 5 & 6 and there is normally no less than 5 Koufax's up for auction in these grades at any one time. They normally go for SMR or a little less. The SMR for a 5 is $325. it's a nice looking 5 but not that nice.

wait a sec....which 5 are we talking about? the one phreaky has shown? you claim that it is not a nice 5?

    Good for you.

I said "it's a nice looking 5" but if it closes at $421 with the premium it's a $495 card. That's 150% of SMR, is it that nice? I guess so. Thanks.

I agree the card is not nice enuff to warrant 150% over smr. Then again when i was active in the 55 market Koufax's (especially in mid grade) Almost always went for over smr. I bet that they still do. And when You get a few guys that are competing for somthing ...well you get the point.

When i made my original comment it was based soley on it's appearance and not price. And, my latter comment was not directed at you. I should have not used the word "you"

I too have collected the set
my sole point is that it is a nice looking EX card. IMO

That's a helluva nice Koufax. Being it's one a few that I need to complete the set, I watch them a lot and your right, they usually go for SMR or a little over. That 8 is beautiful.

That is a beautiful card, Steve! image

  • Winpitcher, beautiful card, but why does Koufax look like he has grey hair in his monobrow?
