Dan, if I were still single, I would be SOOOO there!

I love Black Mountain. I love coins.

My life is here now, though.

    Don't tempt me. image

(Of course, in terms of website-building, I have only rudimentary HTML skills. Kindergarten level. But I plan to remedy that.)

Say, what is your new name gonna be? Dead King already grabbed "WNC Coins", and "Palm Coast" sounds kinda funny in Appalachia. Then again, folks in Appalachia might dig it, who knows?

The folks here would dig "Hemp Coast Coins" or "Stoner-Man Coins." "Tree-hugger Coins" might fly as well.
If you are in the Western North Carolina area, please consider visiting our coin shop:

New name???? I have to do that too???? Actually, after many nanoseconds of deliberation, we came up with the totally unique "Black Mountain Coins" image Of course, that means I now have www.palmcoastcoins.com, www.eBaycoins.com and soon to be www.blackmountaincoins.com. Actually, Carolina Coins was available, but there is a Carolina Coin in existence and I didn't want to step on any toes image

"Black Mountain Coins" has a nice ring to it. image

You can be sure I will visit when we are up there. We do Black Mountain and the Asheville area once or twice a year, usually around the first of November.

You know, that kind of building and maintenance (of a website) can be done over the 'net without having to be there physically. Hardware (server, etc.) maintenance needs to be someone local.

Actually, you don't even need to have local maintenance if you colocate or use a managed hosting solution. I've been running my web sites since 1998, currently 12 of them, and have never even come close to a datacenter. In fact, for the vast majority of sites, even ecommerce sites, virtual hosting is FAR more cost effective than attempting to run and maintain your own server. Looking at the OP's current web site, given its size, I would easily recommend virtual hosting over running a server.

Dan, are you planning to physically move your store? Southern Florida not all it's cracked up to be? I don't understand.

Actually, my store is in North Florida, but my wife has decided she wants to live in the mountains of Western North Carolina, and since my mission in life is to make her happy, well, you can figure out the rest.......image

I hope you don't lose too much walk-in traffic due to the move; I understand you have a very successful brick and morter store. However, if your internet business provides the bulk of your income, there's nothing to worry about.

Definitely your priorities are straight! The wife is number one! My parents recently moved from Fernandina to North Carolina, mainly due to the miserable weather in Florida.

I have no problem (and actually prefer) to have internet based web-hosting. My problem is that I have about 3000 items that I need to get into my website which would take an individual several months or more to accomplish, and I don't think it's economically feasible to subcontract that work. By having someone on site, I also think I can have more input into the design and functional aspects of the website. I'm not really crazy about the way my current website is set up. I don't believe it is very user friendly, although we do get a fair amount of business from it. image

Rob, according to Phillip Lamb (the paper money dealer) who lives in Black Mountain, there is a new chocolate store in town that makes their own chocolate. According to Phil, a confirmed chocoholic, their product makes Godiva look like some amateurish attempt at chocolatiering image

Dan's operation will be pretty different than Bill Wright's in Asheville, where Ye Deade Kinge works.

Besides, Asheville and the surrounding area can support several coin dealers. There were three when I was there (Wright's, Sellers', Randy's).

Nah. Randy's closed when I was there. Mrs. Sellers continued on until after I left. I believe she is in a nursing home now. She's pretty ancient. She was a sweet old lady. Michael worked for her, too, for a while. Her shop was the polar opposite of Bill Wright's- it was like a rummage sale explosion. The thing I most remember from her shop was a big mounted largemouth bass with a set of human dentures in its mouth.

When I lived in Asheville, my yearly coin budget wouldn't buy a tank of gas in Lord Marco's Van today. I was pretty miserably poor.

Now I'm just respectably poor. image

Good luck with the move! My Wife and I have been to the area 5 times. I want to buy a place there and like Hendersonville.

I've had trouble finding "cable" broadband availability in places. Have you looked into that?

I want to see the other side of the mountains I think in Tenn before commiting. Anyone know about "the other side"?

Can I apply even if I have absolutely no idea of what I am doing? I like the 'play with coins all day' part.
