Help out a newbie on a possible purchase

Would $8.50 total including shipping be too much to pay for 1995 Warren Moon Topps PSA 10? Also, any links or advice on online dealers for graded football cards, I am mainly looking for University of Alabama football players from the 70's to 80's.

No it would not be. Especially if you want the card. figure it costs at least 5.00 to grade.

  • Can anyone help with a few links to the better online sources for PSA football cards???
  • Geez, I am just looking into maybe buying a few nice PSA football cards of players I have enjoyed watching and no one can help me with a source online to find anything? And yes, I already know there is such a thing called Ebay, but I was hoping for an testimonial for some honest, reasonable dealers who also have some stuff listed online.

This is the reason that card collecting is in the horrible condition it is in, seems like lots of selfish grumps here who don't mind hijacking a newbie's honest search for a decent online dealer but can't type in a link to be helpful and keep new people coming into their hobby. Not very bright on the card collector's from what I'm seeing, who are you going to sell all of these cards too for a profit when you get old???

well, not going to make many friends like that. Not many answers to your questions either.

    Good Luck

  • Thanks for denying that what I say is true, that's obviously not going to be the best route to take for you so you go to plan B, putting one more inch of dirt on your hobby's long term value.

See Chuck, your the epitome of what is wrong, instead of worrying that your sunken hobby could regain itself through the use of what is called courtesy and encouraging new faces to the hobby, which I have saw absolute zero of, here or other places on the net involving sports cards collectors/dealers and actually have your investment/hobby gain and sustain long term appreciation. I do have a brain and was looking for any online sources I might not have run across yet, I will do perfectly ok on my own, and if this is the opinion of the PSA snobs here(believe me, you guys have quite the positive feedback out there.)
  • First off I wont get into a debate with you but I will say you are dead wrong about the people here. Like most people on earth when you insult and belittle them you will get no response or a negative response.

    Good Day

  • So two days with one answer that is on topic, no quick link to a previous thread for newbie help, no advice, on a pretty active prime message board for one to seek card advice and I don't even get to complain a little due to being frustrated that no one will help me?

I am dead serious though, look at other hobbies, and I can tell you with first hand experience. Look at stamps, they have nearly complete folded in terms of value and why? no one collects that is younger than 70, why is that, not enough hobby promotion and effort on collector's part to get others involved. Same thing with cards, although I will give you due credit and say the pimping of sports cards by the 19 million sets and cards that are now issued and attempts to create scarcity with jersey cards and such has done its part also. Look at coins, the most active collector/young people and beginners orientation out there by far, although it has been the most successful of value-oriented hobbies that I follow, it does leave something to be desired. Look at the investment value of coins vs. cards or stamps and tell me I am out on a limb on what I ranted about in previous posts.

Edited to Add end of sentence that I deleted on accident.
  • You know what, after actually bothering to think about it, your right Chuck, no need to argue. I apologize for any problems I caused and if I came off like a jerk.

    Hi JD
I didn't read your deal and probably best I didn't.

    On the dealer thing?

The best bang for buck, IMO, is ebay.

If you have a favorite player, e.g. let's say Warren Moon. Just go to ebay and search by "Warren Moon PSA" - and all of the graded PSA will pop up. If you only want PSA 9 e.g. Then punch in "Warren Moon PSA 9" and all the 9s will pop up.

I would start there and then later perhaps you can get some guys to give you some dealer links.

I don't buy football and rarely buy from dealers - ebay is the "best" dealer for the money IMO.

Also, look around on the PSA web - you can look in the PSA Registry - there are people with football sets as well as individual player sets that may grab your eye.

Good luck and don't be a stranger!

    With that I say Welcome.

Mike is right about the best place to look. I only collect football and in almost every instance I've found the best deals on ebay. Of course with ebay you have to watch out for the scammers and bad apples.

    Good Luck

JD - there really aren't many dealers who grade post-1972 football in quantity, and most who do sell them on eBay.

might be best to check for past auction results on ebay on advanced search. that will give you an idea of past sales and values.
