Question -

For those of you who have read my companies thread (now pinned to the top, THANKS MODS!!)...

Is there anything that is holding you back from at least inquiring about the nature of the event or what is going on to put everything together? I am really hoping that we will get a lot more donations, but I have yet to be contacted by anyone from this community.

Thanks for your time,

Theodore (Ted) Golden

  • I've been watching the Network54 thread. I don't have anything extra but junk that I could donate. I am looking forward to the auction though. image

  • I contribute in other ways.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

Ted - I'll call in over the next few days and see if you want anything that I have. Kudos for your efforts. It's great that you have some grading companies roped in with authentication/grades. That's big on their part - almost as big as the item donations themselves.

You alluded to soft contribution from this board. Regardless of the particular board, I think it's only due to a few reasons:
    1. Everybody is giving in other ways - cash, work, school drives..
    2. The start up list of donated items is kind of specialized.
    3. It takes some effort to click around, read the links, visit the web.
    4. People are unsure if the items they may donate are "worth it."

Maybe if you suggest a reasonable minimum value that a donated item may resell for at market value in an auction (is it $10 bucks, $25 bucks, $50 bucks?...and collectors will know) you may get some more response. You are donating "time" resources to this, and it will cut down phone dialog and may increase contributions. IMHO. Thanks for what you are doing. Regards...
Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!

Wise Points and i thank you for your insight. I certainly understand that people are donating in their own ways, i certainly don't want people feeling like we assume the only way to help is to donate to this auction :-). I will try and explain this here, as well as on the pinned thread as i have some time. If you are donating anything to the Hurricane Relief drive..then you are doing your part.

I will be happy to take nearly anything, obviously, if an individual item is worth more than $50.00 then that would be idea. However, several people have donated large quantities of items where some items will be worth 5-10 a piece. In this case, we will be able to offer lots. For example, one person has donated a large number of nu-nu's from 1961. These items individually are probably worth b/w 5-10. However, will will probably offer this up as a lot and it will generate enough money. I personally collect almost entirely pre-war memorabilia. Many of our donations have come from that group, and as many of you may know, cards in that era can easily bring in money. We in fact have 20+ items with values exceeding $200. This biggest part of this is going to be the authentication of the products. As a result, we would obviously desire items that are already authenticated, but we can also handle the situation on are end.

To make a long story short, if anyone has item or items that are at least $5-10, we can accept it. Although it might cost us more money in time and effort, it will allow us to donate more money to the ARC and that is what counts. All you have to do is send you items with a list of what is included as well as your name/number/email/address. It is very important that you itemize your list before you send it in. To date we have recieved 300+ cards, 15+ pictures, and potentially one ball. However, steiner sports will be sending us donations shortly and who knows what goodies will be in there. I hope that this answers your questions, but if not, please feel free to call us.

    Sincerely,
