I'm gonna be honest - I really haven't thought much about my trade dollar set for years. I opened the Registry Set up today expecting to see the pops blown up ... but other than the 1877 in MS64, they haven't changed a bit:

Looks like it might take a bit of work to pass this set.
In your opinion, why is the 1877-P so tough to locate in gem condition? Strike? Circulation heavier than normal? Other reason(s)?
Thanks.
You've got an amazing set. I especially like the eye appeal of the '74-CC, '75-CC, '75-S, '76-P, and '77-CC. Gorgeous coins!

Oreville:
The 1877 comes with flat stars [due to excessive die spacing] and PCGS won't gem a trade dollar with flat stars. NGC will and has graded around 10 gems.
NGC's believes trade dollars with flat stars are gems?
Your thoughts?
Did you buy those yourself or is that a collection put together by business?
