Signatures - Common Courtesy

Can we get a consensus vote that no more of these huge, numerous photographs in your signature lines that make it rough for those on dialup?

I am speaking now directly to SPAMMY and his ridiculous 3 LARGE photographs.

CHOOSE ONE.

Those on dialup have to struggle not just with that signature line in one post, but in EVERY one of your posts....so be charitable to those on the board without highspeed, and kill the massive, multi-photo signatures already.

Yep, I have to agree. My cable connection was unusable a few weeks back, and I tried to surf forums like these on a 56K connection. When I saw signatures like that one, it really became frustrating. Many people aren't on high speed connections, ever. One small pic should suffice.

Stalin-you should know about bandwagoning, since you've liked the Bucs since about 5 minutes after they won the super bowl.

As far as my college football tastes go, it's defending USC from the likes of your moronic rants, and whoever is playing the seminoles this week. Why? because it's good to see how stupid and insipid your (and your life mate lou) comments get...the best was the silly contention that the noles were national champ worthy. Hillarious!

As I've said...college football really isn't my sport...high player turnover (naturally) and it just seems the big name schools always get the big money BCS bowls...like Cal getting screwed out of the money game last year.

I won't defend my pro football or baseball choices to you, as it doesn't matter. You are the epitome of the bandwagon fan, of the loud, obnoxious know-it-all fan who in fact knows NOTHING.

Actually have 3 megabit cable, but thanks for assuming.

Unlike you, I actually have some courtesy for the roughly 75% of the US population that doesn't have high speed.

Well the people who seem to violate this common courtesy seem to reside here and post nowhere else, so it seemed appropriate.

Why do you guys feel the needs to have these huge obnoxious signature lines with these huge photos? Can't you at least reduce their size before sticking them in your signature if you feel the need to have muiltiple photos?

All I'm asking for is a little unselfishness...is that so hard for you to do?

I think this is a fair request. I don't use the sig line and I have a cable modem but I can understand
your point. The pics can take a long time.

I have cable and DSL. On the cable, the board loads up without any problems. On DSL, it takes some time to load, depending on how many pictures are in the thread... So if you have several high-res pictures in your signature and post several times on the same thread, the thread is slooooooow to load.

Please show common courtesy by reducing the quality of said picture(s). If you don't know how to resize a picture, just do everyone a favor and take it off. Save the multiple high-res sigs for the beckett boards image

    Thanks in advance.

It's called having internet access at work and home.

I guess you being an $80+/hour at home contract worker (allegedly) wouldn't know about that...

  • Screw 'em. Maybe we'll burn up some 56k fax modems and convince the masses that high speed is the way.

Turn off your land line, go cell phone only and use the savings to pay for the cable modem.

Did this two years ago and it works well for me.

Add wireless in the house and you're set.

Death to the dial up! image

  • It would be nice for those of us posting/reading at work if you got rid of the signature pictures.

They serve no purpose. Especially the often recycled, completely unoriginal, already e-mailed around last year but with a Red Sox logo, "objects in the rear view mirror..." one.

Unfortunately not everyone has access to high speed.

It's reported that about half the country has no option for cable OR DSL.

If anyone wants their photos in their signature lines resized, and don't know how to do it (spammy), send me a PM and I'll do it for you.

These huge, massive photos do serve no purpose other than to annoy those, and for the owners of said pictures try to convince everyone else what great 'fans' they are.

Why is this so difficult for some to understand it's just about being unselfish and using some common sense?

  • Reported where?

In the past five years I have lived in two relatively backward areas. One didn't get cable modem until three years ago.

I would think that any area with cable offers high speed, and I don't think 50% of the country is without cable.

Right now mine is through a satellite link in my complex since the management company chose not to contract with the local cable provider.

So the options are there for anyone.

It's playing havoc with the guys who have dialup. The max permitted size is 400x200. please adjust accordingly and show a little consideration for these other folks.

I don't want to hear that they should get highspeed broadband. Half of our country has yet to have it available, unlike several so called third world countries, who have 100% availability and much faster speeds than our so called "highspeed".

A good topic for a thread.
  • AxtellAxtell Posts: 10,037 ✭✭
They get around the max size by having a lot of photos under that size.

They do intentionally to be annoying.

They do intentionally to try to shove how big a 'fan' they are in everyone's face.

I don't see a problem with it...the ones that are the worst are these huge squarish photos, then the people who have those have 2-3 of them.

I just don't get why people have to be so inconsiderate.

I emailed carol and asked her to look into it.

Most boards like this have a profile configuration that squelches the displaying of others signatures. This board has something like that under the "customize" part, but it doesn't seem to work.

I have high speed access at home and work, but personally feel all images in sigs should be banned. I can live with avatars though. image

I don't have any basic problem with what Axtell initially said here. Note that changing banner Java thing that Gator5220 has, takes up much more memory than any picture. Also I believe that you can customize your personal CU settings to only accept text, so no pictures would be displayed.

I have always agreed with this - if you ever want to see how bad it could get, wander on over to kindergarten (aka the Beckett forums) and you'll never waste time with another redundant signature pic ever again.

I have a website and I added one flashing Amazon.com banner to it a few months ago. I'm not sure how to precisely measure the kb's of the Java banners, but from looking at the difference in the server space this banner took up - it was huge compared to the rest of my website which has multiple still pictures on it. I actually had the flashing banner on another page of my website, but took it off because it was going to put me up for a more expensive monthly server fee.

if any of you have banners, pics, etc......and want them to meet the mods' guidelines......You might PM Cosmicdebris and ask him to fix them for you. He's a heck of a nice guy and darn good at photoshop as well!

I think Axtell's request is reasonable....only problem is that speeding up the page loads means only one thing!

why must you insult people with comments like this? And I am going to FSU in two years. So why don't you stop with all of that? I don't think you know anyone on here to actually make the assumption that they are not smart or can't root for a team because they did not go there.

<<< You can only be a fan of the college you actually GRADUATED from. >>>

I agree that this statement is just plain silly. I did graduate from Penn State and of course am loyal to them, but for instance "Big 5" basketball is huge in the Philly area and when Villanova won the NCAA basketball championship, I was still very happy that a local Big 5 school won it.

People in local college towns "always" root for the local team. Even up at State College, people who never attended Penn State always strongly rooted for them.

    SteveK...

what are your thoughts on JoePa??

    Time for him to go?
  • I totally agree with carew4me. I'm tired of people talking $hit about "their" school when they never even stepped foot on campus.

As a GT alumni and current grad student, I can attest that almost the entire state of GA roots against us and every toothless inbred is a UGA fan.

    <<< SteveK...

I love the guy but unfortunately the answer is "Yes" - virtually every Penn State fan would give the exact same answer. We're 2 - 0 right now but we haven't played a "real" college team yet. I still keep in touch with a number of my Penn State friends and we are "hoping" that "maybe" we can get a minor bowl bid. Anything this early in the season a few years back other than thinking of a national championship would have been unheard of from any Penn State fan.

Well my family has gone there and of course I will be going there soon so that's why they are "My" team. I just didn't want tuition to kill me for all 4 years so I'm going local for a few.

What a twist. I used to root for UNLV because Tarkanian was a maverick and his players were nay-do-well JC transfers. That was the attraction......and his teams were great!! Offense ruled!! Excitement and underdogs!! Any clown who suggests who we are supposed to root for or show allegiance to is an unabashed fool. But, that goes without saying. Regards.
