The Mick's FTC

You must read the full blown questions and answers. You have to give the guy credit, he's not hiding in the trainer's room away from the press. Here's my favorite:

Q. Who graded this card a ten two years ago and why did you not keep the graded card in a slab?
A. I took out the card to have it put on a floppy disk, the company that graded it was Authenic Grading & Authentication Services. image

I also liked this one:

Q. may i drive out to your home to see the card? cash is in hand
A. yes this is not a scam but id rather do business with strange people on ebay.I have nothing to hide i just feel safer that way.

I just keep picturing the AFLAC duck walking out of the barber shop shaking its head when Yogi Berra says "they pay you with cash which is as good as money".

  • It is hard to believe anyone with feedback over 650 would bid on this...

But then again look what this guy has been bidding on

  • This just screams of scam. Check out the sellers "1954 bowman Mickey Mantle #65 this card is in good condition.this card is graded a 10". I don't know too many people trying to sell a 1951 Bowman as a 1954. Its a great scam technique because it makes it seem like the seller has real cards but just doesnt know how to tell what years they are. I also like how the auction states "1 lot available of two items each". After looking at the other item he is selling, it actually is the 1954 Mantle but has the rare 1951 Bowman back version..........

    Q & A so far

Q: Hi - I was wondering if Authentic Grading & Authentication Services graded the card or blue-chip sports co.. You list both as the graders! Also I do not ship payments to PO box only direct addresses. I also make payments on high end items with Bank Certified atorney checks. This is the safest most secure way of makeing a payment. Just want to make sure this is OK. Thank You
    Sep-14-05
A: yes this is ok.authentic graded the card and blue blue chip sports company apperased it.

Q: I live in Atlanta and would like to meet you to exchange card for cash in person. Would you do that?
    Sep-14-05
A: no i only do business on ebay

Q: Will you also pay for shipping insurance?
    Sep-14-05
    A: yes

Q: Do you guarantee this card to be authentic? And what kind of protective case will this card be sent in.
    Sep-13-05
A: yes I do guarantee this card to be authenic. ths card will be sent in a hard, plastic case.

Q: I noticed there jerks with insults out there I have dealt with them too. I am interested in the card but being retired I also have to watch my spending. I only get paid once a month (1st) I will watch your card and depending on what it goes for I may bid on it. What else can you tell me about this card. I'm a little leary on how the picture looks, it doesn't look right somehow, maybe thats why your having trouble getting bids in addition to being new but we all were once. I noticed also you've dropped the the bid a great deal. Please get back to me on any thing else you can on the card. I would not put this on your listing it may cause more jerks to email in. If you don't sell may we could work something out with a Buy it Now on Ebay Good Luck and Thanks Phil

A: I took out the card to have it put on a floppy disk, the company that graded it was Authenic Grading & Authentication Services

Q: Kinkos will scan it for $5.00. That seems like a small price to pay when asking someone to bid $20K on a card from a person with no feedback. There's seems to be no excuse not to do it unless this is a fraud. You must be smoking your socks.
    Sep-12-05
A: I did not know that I will do it A.S.A.P

Q: may i drive out to your home to see the card? cash is in hand

A: yes this is not a scam but id rather do business with strange people on ebay.I have nothing to hide i just feel safer that way.

Q: why don't you buy a new scanner if you have a $20,000 card at home? plus you have no feedback; why would someone bid on your card?
    Sep-11-05
A: because i dont have the money to buy a scaner. due to finacal hard ship i am forced to sell this card for my pregnent wife and 8 year old dughter to survive.I am asking for below what this card is worth.I need to sell it A.S.A.P

Q: What company appraised this card as a 10? Can you send a scan of the card to my email address. Thanks, Bill
    Sep-11-05
A: Bill/my card was appraised at company named blue-chip sports co.I am sorry i can not send you a scan my scaner is broke at this time.sorry fo the inconveince. THANK YOU

  • I unfortunately spent a LOT of time in the Anniston Alabama area covering the period of 1990 thru 1999. From my personal experiences, this person (seller) may well be telling what he perceives the reality of the card to be. A lot of people in Anniston have a "Stephen King Character" kind of viewpoint about most things.
  • I love his payment instructions.

THIS CARD MEANS ALOT TO ME MY GRANDPA GAVE IT TO ME WHEN I WAS 12 YEARS OLD AND I CANT AFORD TO LOSE IT.I WILL ONLY ECSEPT PAYMENT IN FULL BEFORE I CAN SHIP THIS ITEM OUT.I WILL PAY ALL SHIPPING COST AND WILL NOT BURN ANYONE.

    What does ecsept mean??????????
  • Ecsept? I thought the guy lived in Alabama. Even I know Ecsept Center is in Walt Disney World
  • I especially liked this quote -

I was over at VBC and read about this ebay scammer who just plead guilty. I then come to this thread and click on the mantle auction and lo and behold the just plead guilty scammer is hi bidder!!

the sad thing about this is that ebay helped in the police investigation. the original indictment was last NOV. he just recently plead guilty.

whats up? how is this guy not NARU?

Now THAT was a good one! Spit up some soda on the keyboard after reading that one.

Perhaps the grader was using a "binary" based numbering system?

Winpitcher, that's an excellent question. But I'm wondering why the guy forked out $2275 for the card? Maybe he was sentenced into buying back junk that he sold image ?

How can the guy possibly make money even if he does scam someone again? He could get much nicer fakes for $2000 less. Maybe it's real!!!

<<< whats up? how is this guy not NARU? >>>

Incredible that he "bought" this card and even more incredible that he didn't change his ebay name. Although I remember that story, I had forgotten his name so maybe he figured nobody would remember his name?
But SD sure remembered it! image

I believe there is no way this guy "really" bought this card, even though most likely there will be positive feedback left. Sure seems to me like some sort of scam is being conjured up here. Possibly the old trick of "Show some high dollar transactions with positive feedback amongst an assortment of shill ebay accounts, and then come in later for the kill with a bunch of phony auctions and then scam real people out of their money."
