1961 Topps Baseball - All PSA 8

Any help on what a fair asking price would be for this complete PSA 8 NQ set.

I know SMR is $24857 but what is realistic to expect? 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, 100%?

Should I sell via EBAY or Auction house? By single card or set? Which Auction house provides the best results?

Any advise would be helpfull.

Any one interested please PM.

  • Mr. Smithhome, The best way to recover your money at SMR or higher would be to sell them individually on Ebay. I found that the Best. Most auction house's want 15% of the final auction price. sometime you can negotiate them to a lower fee,but most sets of any sport in the sixty's usually go below SMR than the 15% to the Auction House. This topic has been discussed in quite a few threads on each of the 4 boards. Pros & Cons of breaking up the set, using Mastronet, Ebay, or simply selling here on the boards were all discussed at length. Use the search feature under various keywords and you can seriously backtrack to get up to speed. The money (and labor) involved in building your magnificent set demands that you do your homework. Here is one link for starters:

Selling registry sets - sample thread

For what it is worth, I sold a complete 1962 Topps Registry set for slightly over SMR about 6 months ago. Listed on Ebay with lots of photos, but ultimately sold it off of Ebay to a member of these boards. People on these boards tend to have a good feel for value and will pay for it (whether a large or small ticket item), conversely - they will not pay for overpriced items. Good luck with your sale.

Put it on ebay with scans and details and a BIN of what you'd want for it. If it doesn't sell then contact Robert Edwards or Mastro, and you should be able to negotiate a commission of 5% or less.
Breaking it up might yield more, but it would be a lot more work and it's likely you'd get stuck with a lot of high pop cards. If you are going to break it you should consider offering it to others on the registry- Buckwheat is a great guy to deal with, I"m sure Davillilo would be very interested in any cards he doesn't already have and there are several others. Then toss the rest out on ebay.

  • I would agree that the BIN option is cheap and effective should it sell. Offering to registry members is another good idea--Davalillo is done, but there are others who are closing in on completion.

  • I would contact Buckwheat(Rob)on the boards here.He has the #1 61 set and could give you insight as to which avenue is best.Great guy and a straight shooter to boot.Go to the set registry and e-mail him or PM him.

Please be kind to me. Even though I'm now a former postal employee, I'm still capable of snapping at any time.
