COIN VALUES.................

image
Most collectors know that there are three ( 3 ) things that determine value when it comes to coins. They are : ( a ) Rarity,
( B ) Condition, and ( C ) Demand.
What a lot of collectors, and dealers don't know is that demand is the most important factor.
In addition, there is another variable that is overlooked, and is the most important of all, and that is CHALLENGE !!!
If a series is challenging, prices for those coins will skyrocket. A similar series may be highly collectible, but increase only marginally in price over the years.
A good comparison is Liberty, or " V " 5 cent pieces, compared to Buffalo, or Bison 5 cent pieces. The Liberty become valuable in high grades only, while Many of the " buffalo " are valuable in ANY grade.
There is a reason that mountain climbers pay $ 60,000.00 to climb Mt. Everest. They could go out and climb hundreds of other mountains for free, but they don't, and that reason is challenge.
Even children will search all afternoon, looking for four ( 4 ) leaf clovers, while passing by millions of regular clovers.
I am not knocking any series for collectibility, what I am saying : A good way to judge if a series will have dramatic price increases is to look for CHALLENGE .
This post is not to offend anyone, or to suggest that they collect a particular series. Some collectors collect statehood quarters from circulation, and that is great.
However, unless a series is challenging to collect, the dramatic price increases will be lacking.

The above posts are right on but then when you go within one series then it gets a bit trickier.
