Ideas about how PCGS can reward (and encourage) its loyal PCGS Registry Set owners

This is not a package deal but some ideas that can be adopted a la carte for PCGS Registry Set owners who have sets that are 50%, or more, complete:

1. Offer a 7 day turnaround grading time at the 15 day turnaround price

2. Drop the minimum 5 coin submission requirement on the 15 day turnaround service

3. Offer 5 free re-grade coupons per year

4. Offer 1 free Presidential Review per year (maximum 5 coins)

5. Guarantee to cross 50% of NGC coins in to PCGS holder image -- just kidding on this one image

Anyway, any thoughts on what PCGS can do to reward those who have sets, which would consequently incent new people to start/build their sets?

How about a free photo and reholdering for every 10 or 20 or XX coins that a person has in Registry sets. It would be a good way for PCGS to let collectors see the quality of their new photo service first-hand; maybe more people would want to have entire sets photographed. Everybody wins.

  • Improving overall turnaround times and consistancy would be a good starting point ...

Reducing the amount of mechanical errors would be even better ... considering how many I have saved up for the next time I cross paths with them at the Silver Dollar Expo in St Louis.

How about a free 3 day all expenses paid trip for two to PCGS for a tour and a 5 coin walk through grading service.

  • They do provide one very nice benefit. If you have a set at >= 90% complete, they will allow you to send in one or more slabbed coins (depending on registry set size) from other grading services for a crossover for no charge (other than shipping and insurance). I think that is pretty nice.

Excerpt below from PCGS Registry Set Benefits

Free Grading. We recognize that not every coin in every important collection has been graded by PCGS. In order to encourage participation in the PCGS Set RegistrySM program we are offering the following free grading benefits for sets that reach 90% completion:

If the set composition is 1-9 coins you are entitled to 1 free grading.
If the set composition is 10-24 coins you are entitled to 2 free gradings.
If the set composition is 25-49 coins you are entitled to 3 free gradings.
If the set composition is 50-99 coins you are entitled to 4 free gradings.
If the set composition is 100+ coins you are entitled to 5 free gradings.
Free gradings are for coins within the set that has reached 90% completion. You should request your free gradings with the intent to either add or upgrade your set with the coins that are being graded for free. You cannot submit the same coin twice for free grades. All coins must be submitted at one time. If your set has reached 90% complete and you have not previously received free grading for this set, please contact setregistry@collectors.com with your name, address and phone number. You will be sent by U.S. mail a submission form to be used exclusively for your free gradings. It is your responsibility to pay for postage and insurance.
  • A separate phone number for an enhanced customer service dept. with more knowlegable reps. and a much quicker turnaround on regular submissions.
