I collect coins, but. . .

I've got a box of baseball cards that I collected in the late 80's and I'm wondering what to do with them. The box is stuffed full and it measures approx. 14" by 20". I was 13 or so when I collected, so I'm sure they've all been handled. The oldest that I remember was a Brooklyn Dodger, Don Zimmer, but I'm sure that most of the rest are from the early 80's and up through 1992. I would love to sell and buy . . . coins image. . ., but I don't know quite where to start. What would you do?
I've had great transactions with people like: drwstr123, CCC2010, AlanLastufka, Type2, Justlooking, zas107, StrikeOutXXX, 10point, 66Tbird, and many more!

  • If I were you, I'd sell all the vintage cards to me since I'd appreciate them more than a dealer looking to resell them. I'd even give you some coins for them...got some dimes and quarters here somewhere!

Worth about the same, minus the face value, of circulated memorial pennies and clad coins - and you know what they are worth. You can of course organize them and check out what similar cards are selling for on ebay - just don't expect the total value to equal a 1913 V Nickel or even a 1950-D Nickel.

Thanks for the responses, especially the coin analogy. It looks like I have some work to do. . . image

    Hi Rick
I assumed from this that you are a coin guy?

Well, sometimes coin people come over here and ask what appears to be a simple question. If someone were to ask a coin guy: "I have this box of coins and want to sell them" - I would guess they would say:
"that's a way more complicated question than you think" - and the same holds for cards - there all kinds of deals with supply/demand, condition, counterfeits, market trends etc. just like coins.

In general, anything that's after 1975 and not in "near perfect" condition will not bring much money.
It would almost be more fun to just go thru them and go down "memory lane" with them.

Now, if you have any "vintage" (before 1970) cards that you would like advice - just take a scan and post it here like you do coins. If you don't do that kind of thing - email it to me and I will post it for you.

Good luck and if I/we can be of any help, please don't be shy or PM me!
    Thanx for dropping by

I've seen posts from people who have found a "really expensive" coin only to be let down that what they own is a dime a dozen. I think that this is probably the case for my cards, but I will take your advice and look through the box to see what I've got. Anything pre-1970 I'll be sure to ask about. Thanks again for the help and happy collecting!
