Is he 'annoying' because he's beating you out of some eBay auctions or something?

He seems to bid on everything. It is widely believed that if you win an auction and he is the underbidder, you got a good deal.
  • exactly, that was my point of why he is a pain in the butt.

    He bids on everything.
  • Check out his web site everything he buys is for sell at a premium. If you need somethting for your set he might just have it.
  • If I get outbid by him, there is no way in hell, I would then go to him and pay a premium for the card.

Not you, maybe - but other people will. And, apparently they do.

I have sold cards to him a few times, and he has bid on many of my auctions causing them to increase in price. Never a problem with him at all - he pays quickly, and is very professional to deal with.

  • Larry Mayer is a true collector in every sense, if he is beating you on an auction.....you are trying to steal the card, I have done many deals/trades with Larry and it has always been top notch.
  • I can echo Jay's sentiment. Larry is a great buyer and he always pays very fast. The only problem with selling to Larry is that if he is the high bidder, your cards are usually going for too low. He is very sharp.

Been outbid by him a few times, but never dealt with him directly, from what I recall.

What's his website that a couple of you referred to?

  • He is the "Shill" everyone loves to hate! He bids on thousands of items about half their fair value. However, I think he has lost his mind recently on the 55 topps. I contacted him 8 months ago about some cards on his site and he never got back to me.

Edited to add he is currently bidding on 450 ebay items??!@$!@#%@$?%^#$6

And as for Larry bidding under the value--- The 73' Carew books for $200 in a 9 and Larry's bid was $235. I topped out at $283 on the card.

I"ve dealt with Larry a lot and he's always top notch. He's got a wide selection of cards, and the prices often aren't bad. He's off on a few, but what dealer isn't? I've also noticed him paying strong prices lately, and while I've never sold to him friends that have say he's quick to pay.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

Any auctions he wins, he's getting a good deal. He has a great strategy, bid on tons of auctions and hope you steal a couple here and there. His bids are usually competitive, but slightly below the average market value. I think his flipping is a great idea, and he does have quite an extensive inventory of higher end PSA material.

I have never bought from him, but he has been responded quickly to my e-mails on some potential purchases.
