You think they'd wait 20-30 more years for the first issue of Charles III coins....

Watch out! This never goes well.

A travesty in the making, I've no doubt. Especially if the Mint listens to drivel such as much of what is posted below the story.

WTF is that on the right-hand side of the picture?

The snout of some prehistoric fish?

It's Queen Elizabeth II! Everybody knows the other side of UK and British colony coins is the reigning monarch. image

A basking shark was my exact thought, right after "coelacanth"! image

What, you don't agree with sculptor Antony Gormley's plan to “design an organically shaped coin — certainly not round and preferably not symmetrical"image

At least we can count on the vending machine industry to kill that bit of nonsense.image

  • Hmmm comments from a chef, a sculptor, a Secretary of State, and a Lord. and after reading them I think they better put the chef in charge

He want new images of traditional symbols for the country. Sounds very reasonable.
The sculptor wants "organically shaped" non-symetrical coins. What the heck is "organically shapped" I think he wants to go back to the irregular shaped metal lumps like the ancient coins were made with.
The Secretary of State wants the olympic rings. Does she realize that that is a copyrighted image and that they would have to pay the International Olympic Committee a fee for every coin in circulation?
And the Lord wants to get rid of the Monarch's image because most other countries have stopped using them. Did he stop to consider that the reason most countries no longer use the bust of the Monarch is because they are no longer monarchies? Most countries that still have a King or a Queen DO use their images.
