Most Memorable "Doh!" Moment

So I've been building sets of raw baseball between '67-78. For the entire Summer I've focused on 1976 - not a great set, but one that I've found is particularly hard to nail. I track all my cards using my own software, and one by one the set falls. Finally, this week I finished it by purchasing a #10 Lou Brock - saving the best for last - on Ebay.

To celebrate I prepare a binder with 9 card holders, and start filling it up. As I do, I notice that I'm missing cards - lots of them. So I stop and check the card numbers that I've got.

All the missing cards are commons.

Then I remember that I sold some "doubles" this Summer to fund my habit - so I check my Ebay selling history. Sure enough - there they are. Evidently I bought a large batch of cards, marked them down in my database, then placed them in my doubles piles and sold them.

Anyone care to fess up to doing something stupid like this?

  • My biggest image for me happened at the Toronto Expo back in April. It's really too embarassing to go into but I almost cost myself $4,500.00 by selling an item for a friend. I was nauseous when it happened. Thankfully it was straightened out before the end of the show on Sunday. Let's just say the next time I take something to sell for someone I'll be getting the particulars in writing!

I sold about 30 psa 8 1969 topps commons this year to fund 1980 wax boxes. I kept getting these e-mails from psa saying there was some errors regarding cert. #'s for cards I had in my psa registry. I ignored them for about 2 weeks then (after a flood of e-mails from peeps I had sold the cards to and psa) I realized my 'doh' moment.
