Picked this little guy up today, but I know absolutely nothing about it.......... Relying on a little help here, please ????

    Yep, it's German. The arms on the right are Saxon. Catch is, there were quite a few Saxon lines and I don't know which this is but someone else will. image
  • It seems to be KM-645 under Saxony, the silver groschen (1/24 thaler) listed in my `99 edition at $8 in VG, $15 in F, $30 in VF and $55 in XF conditions. The mint master's initials IK (Johann Koch) are between the shields.

    Not quite. The obverse pictured in Krause for KM 645 is clearly a single coat of arms. The coin in this thread matches exactly the pictures shown in Krause for KM 638 (1/12 Thaler).

    So either Krause got the pictures wrong, or it's a type not listed in Krause (not uncommon), or the little footnote "Varieties exist" (lame) is supposed to cover it.

    I really wish Krause would put half as much effort into the minors as they do to crowns and gold...
