That's the best help you can give for a new guy who's making his first post? I haven't been on here long but have always expected a little more from you Steve.

No Moon cards from me, but welcome to the club.

  • Steve, if its a card I really wanted then yes I probably would pay good money for a card. I would really love to trade if I can though. Thanks for the welcome everybody.

  • Welcome Code99-glad to see to someone collecting a guy I loved to watch. Thought you might like to see something from my personal collection (and no, its definately not for sale).

And sorry for the tilted scans-its like that way in its holder ever so slightly, and I didn't feel like pulling it out and adjusting it.

  • Ryan, It absolutely hurts everytime I see that card. That card is definitely my unicorn if you know what I mean. Besides there is no way I could ever buy that card. Nice specimen by the way, it is probably the most centered one I have ever seen. Well if I were you I would hold onto that one for a very long time. Thanks for showing me though ( i guess)

  • Thanks Code. Its actually been "in the family" (its actually my dad's) for almost 15 years now. It's an interesting story on how it was acquired. Back in the early 90's, my Dad and I kept looking for one and couldn't find one at all. I live right between Seattle (UWashington) and Vancouver (CFL), so there just had to be one around, right? After trying to find one forever, and letting every dealer know what we were looking for, we finally got a random call from a guy one night who asked if we were looking for a Moon (got our number from a dealer friend). So that night we jump in the car and end up driving a half hour away to meet the guy at a Taco Bell (of all places...). Not only does he have the Moon, he has a complete 1983 Jogo Set (which still had the factory number on it), as well as the 1981 Jogo B/W Set (which has another Moon in it), both of which were just gorgeous looking. We ended up walking out with both sets, EXTREMELY happy we were able to even find one. The guy also had a 1984 Star Jordan he was selling (for at least $2000 if I recall correctly) that we passed on-definately a good call in retrospect.

This goes to show - for rarer stuff, work the dealers and get your name out there. Sometimes you'd be surprised what can turn up.

Code-good luck on finding one, I wish you the best. Just out of curiousity though, since I assume you look for one - do you actually find the 1983 Moon? I haven't been to any of the big shows, and don't check ebay or the like since I already have one. I'd be interested to know how often they turn up. I see there is one on Ebay now-and thats an interesting story with it I haven't heard before (about the shop buying the cards).

  • Yeah I see about 1 every month or so and it usually sells for around $150 to $200 ungraded. The highest grade I have seen on it is a PSA 8. I have the 83 Moon QB set graded PSA 8 and I love that card( black and white and red version) about the same number produced. I dont get to too many shows. there are none ever in my area (eugene, oregon) I have to go to Portland for shows. One good dealer in my area and he knows I collect Moons. I have managed to get my hands on some super rare Moons, 1/1's even. But that card has managed to elude me. I would get yours graded that is one of the cleanest I have seen and it would be better protected. If you come across some good Moons being up there in Moonland and all, let me know.

  • I've been thinking about getting it graded for nothing more than the protection-and the curiousity factor of what would it grade. It really does look a lot nicer than the scan shows. I'll keep you in mind if I see anything of Moon's - although its been ages since I've been to a show and there's really not much in the area for shops anymore. Besides, what I collect is either to old or obscure to be readily available at shops or shows - better to blow the gas money on the 'bay.

Also, do you collect all of Moon's stuff? If you do I'm sure you have a pretty nice collection by now. Do you have a website/scans of any of the stuff? There is a guy who collects Mark Brunell who has a pretty interesting site. But really, if you can pick up that Moon for under $200 just do it-kill off that unicorn!

I am looking for rare parallels

Code first off welcome, i did not realize last nite that this was your first thread/post.

The reason i asked if you paid over book was the way you stated that book meant nothing to you and the fact that you were looking for rare parallels too.

If my remark seemed flippant it was not done on purpose.

I was just asking a question.

Again, welcome to the boards. Good luck

Nice looking card. Out of curiosity, what do you think that card would sell for on Ebay?

I learn something new everyday...if I had ever seen that card in a 25cent box I would have passed it by thinking it was just another broder card.

Let the record show, that in my HUMBLE opinion, Steve is one of the greatest posters on this board. Intelligent, knowledgable, and helpful. I was just feeling sorry for the new guy for a moment.

I didn't mean anything by it.

    Shawn.
  • Guys, guys.. I am no stranger to message boards. Just this one. No offense of any kind taken. What I meant most by "book value means nothing to me" was that if I Had a card that booked for $100 and you had a Moon card that I needed that booked for $40 I would not hesitate to make a trade. In my opinion it is only worth what somebody is willing to pay, and not what some price guide says a card is worth. So really guys look through your stuff and dig up some of those Moon cards that are gathering moss
