JUtsnipe for free is justdumb

FYI free members only have 8 second lead time. Wasn't even worth the time it took to fill out the application.

I am gonna have to check what I am spending for auction sniper. Is the 5 bucks unlimited snipes? I think it is strange nobody mentions the 8 second rule!

yep, unlimited.. i think mine is set to go off at 6 seconds, but im not sure.. i might have like 30 snipes set at any given time, so the $5 is well worth it for me..

I'm confused? Are you saying that 8 seconds before an auction ends is too long? Justsnipe gives you 5 snipes free a week. For a free service, I think thats a pretty good deal. You dont have to sit and time your bids, or you wont forget an auctions is going off. Or if your out of town, free is pretty good. I pay them the $5 a month for unlimited snipes and I set mine for 5 seconds. Stops me from over paying and forgetting its going off. Plus ends all doubts of shill bidding. Great service and you can download it to put on your browser and just click on it to place a snipe order. Dont know how I ever bid without it.

Steve, I thought you were telling evryone that jsutsnipe had "free" snipe services up to 5 per week. After signing up and trying to set my snipes, I noticed all of them had an 8 second lag time. When I read the sspecifics, after I joined, they read that a minimum of 8 seconds of lead time for free members. Maybe nobody knew this since the 5$ per month is cheap enough. I was posting for people not to bother with the "free" service unless there are 0 bidders on an item. IMHO 8 seconds is too long, I guess I should set my snipes higher!
  • In my mind 8 seconds should be fine as it doesn't really allow anyone to respond to your bid, i.e. revise and resubmit their own because you outbid them. Either you won it or you didn't at that point. Adam B.

True, I have just been getting murdered by the extra 1$ high bid. Semms like I have been the 2nd highest bidder on about 30 auctions recently. I guess you can never tell if someone just put a huge bid in, and mine was right before it. UGH!

    They do.

  • If you're losing auctions with a bid placed 8 seconds before the end of auction, you're not bidding enough, plain and simple. By the time JustSnipe sends your bid and your competition refreshes his page, there will be no more than 5 seconds left (worst case scenario), which is not enough time to react with another bid.
  • Don't be cheap...spend the $5 for unlimited snipes per month and you can bring it down to 5, or 4 seconds. I have to agree that 8 seconds is too long. I've been outbid by 1 second......mine is set on 5....guess someone had theirs on 4 image
  • I have the unlimited/$5 plan as well, and have it set for 5 seconds. I have noticed that it "fires" from 4 to 6 seconds before the auction ends, which would make me a bit leery of setting it for just 2 seconds. Besides, considering how many "Confirm Bid" buttons you must hit 5 seconds is more than enough. Pretty much the only way to get in under 5 seconds is to have multiple tabs going with bids in already past the first step-of course you might as well just bid if you are going to go this far.

I use powersnipe.com because I got a free month at the start and that was when I was buying a lot. I think its $50 for a year so less than $5 a month and it has never failed. Just an FYI of another option and at $50/yr that is $4.16/mo and at times they have deals on top of that.

    100% on the money
It doesnt matter if your snipe goes off with 1 second if someone has already placed a higher bid in the first hour the seller listed the auction

8 second leadtime worked last night for me. And I needed every penny of my snipe to win the card too.

I think the problem here was the amount of the snipe NOT the lead time.

I do not suscribe to justsnipe because i never use it more then 2 or 3 times a month, let alone a week.

If I would use it more I would gladly pay for the service.

Justsnipe is fantastic. I just won 30 auctions set for $270 worth snipes, my total ended up at around $120.

  • Used the free justsnipe for months and had no problem.

Upgraded to the $5 unlimited when I needed more than 5 a week.

Set mine for 4 seconds with no problem.

8 seconds can be too long when bids are close. It gives someone else with the 5 second bid time a better chance.

Of course, if you want it bad enough you just snipe with an outrageous figure.

From a strategy standpoint I disagree completely. If two bidders are sniping with very similar bids, you want your bid in first in case the bids actually turn out to be identical.

Only the highly experienced manual snipers could possibly react in time to an 8 second snipe, and if they can react to an 8 second snipe chances are they will be able to react to a 5 second snipe as well.
  • Yupper. Just have 4 windows open of the same auction with the bids already in the "confirm bid" window, and you are ready to go. This is just for people that don't have "unlimited funds" and don't want to go too far and end up with buyers remorse. No matter how many cards up for bid, there will always be another somewhere down the line.............

I use just snipe. I love it, no need to look at another service. Just snipe has yet to fail me. As far as the 8 second rule for free accounts go, my snipe is set well before the auction ends and I DO NOT sit there watching the auction end. I don't think I have lost an auction yet do to an emergency last second bid in reaction to my snipe. All of my losses are do to other snipes set well in advance, that I am confident of.

The timing of your snipe really doesn't matter. Actually, if you snipe with 8 seconds remaining, and another bidder with the same snipe amount bids with 5 seconds.... YOU WIN. The problem sounds to me like you are not bidding high enough. If you are losing by one dollar, that simply means the other bidder has place a higher snipe or proxy bid than you, maybe as much as $100 more then you, remember, ebay will only bid for you (Proxy) up to the lowest amount required to win the auction and that may be only $1.00 more.

What hurts is when your snipe is higher than the auction closing price, but not a high enough bid increment. image

3 of my last 4 snipes have had that happened. Sort of depressing.
  • What is the best amount to bid without losing by a penny? If I set my snipe for $18.00, I lose to a bid of 18.01 placed after my bid. I bid 18.50 and lose to $18.53? How do I stop this without overpaying?

Does JustSnipe slow down opening or refreshing to ebay? I recently joined JustSnipe, and for some reason, signing on to ebay, or refreshing an ebay page, is seeming to take longer, now that JustSnipe is activated.

Anyone else having a similar situation? Or it may be just a problem with my computer and nothing to do with JustSnipe? I don't know?

I just had my "free" justsnipe account win me a vintage card by a penny. Yes - $5/month unlimited is perhaps better - but I use my esnipe account for a lot of my "have to have" items.

If you are clicking Ebay links through a Justsnipe web page, it is slower. They are doing a "redirect" through some adfarm web page and it does slow things down.
  • I like when you win an auction and look at the final bids. No bids for hours or days and 3 bids in the last 10 seconds. Justsnipe has won 3 of those for me against what I assume is other sniping bidders. Plus by using the service you arent caught up in the maybe 1 more buck will win it mentality as you bid higher than you originally wanted.

I was getting absolutely KILLED by AuctionSniper. JustSnipe is much better and saves me big $$$. AuctionSniper charges a whopping 1% for all winning bids. Ouch!

Don't you get it? If you could have set the snipe to 0.5 seconds, you still would have lost the auction.
