I am attempting to make some Burger King sets but these may look to be too tough to submit. I opened about 200 packs of 1978 Yankees and about 300 packs of 1979 Yankees. The Munson's seemed the nicest for some reason from both years so I decided to submit the best of those. 9's in BK are way undervalued so I think I'm done submitting these. At this rate I will have a 8.50 GPA set and have $1000 per set invested in them. From the 300 1979 Packs, I don't even have a full set that appeared PSA 9 worthy! And, based on these grades, I will have to open about 2000 packs to make an all 9 set. Honestly though, these Munson's were undergraded (I know what I'm looking at). They should have been 9's across the board. I took a shot at 85's too, I think I'm done with those also. I was very happy with the 1990 Leaf, wasn't expecting that. The rest was about what I was expecting (other than the 1979 Rose).

That Elway RC Sticker is only the 2nd PSA 10 ever graded so that should do well on Ebay.

By the way, these were received on 9/1/05 and grades were available today 9/7/05 under the Set Registry Special, which is pretty cool to have them that quick.

What'll those 1990 leaf 10's do on ebay?

Probably not incredibly great. They go up and down a lot. Sometimes low pops get over $100 each and sometimes (like now) they are in the $10-$25 range. One of them is a Pop 2 so that should do the best. The rest are about Pop 5's.

Well, I've made a few humble attempts at Tigers sets on Ebay but they are by far the most popular and expensive. They usually sell for about $40-$50 and all the rest of the BK sets go for like $5 or under. I sold a lot of 10 pack fresh 1979 Yankees sets on Ebay for a whopping total of $13 so I haven't been able to stomach the price of the Tigers set yet. I don't want to regret a purchase now if there is a big flood of them on Ebay and the price drops dramatically. Plus I will need to buy about 50 sets to have any chance of making an all PSA 9 set. I did pick up an Astros which for $5 on Ebay which is also tougher to find than other BK sets. I've got a lot of other really nice BK cards to grade but I'll have to give it some more thought because I don't want to wind up with a bunch of Mint cards in PSA 8 holders. I'm thinking of just waiting for 4SC to crack 10 vending cases of every BK set and look for deals on Ebay. I really love the BK cards. 4SC grades mass amounts of other 70's cards, hopefully they will get into these soon.

I bought a box of 78 BK Tigers last year and submitted the very best of what I got. I got a 9 Trammell, a bunch of 8OC's and wound up with an overall set grade of just over 7. Off-center cards and tightly wrapped cellophane packs make these cards a bear!!

I'm putting together 1979 and 1980 Phillies BK sets. They are very tough. The packs are generally so tight that the corners get F*ed, almost every time. My best advice is to loupe the corners - as you can eyeball centering and print. And submit very, very few. You can put together a nice set on a lower budget.

Always realize, though, that with the BK sets - it will be a labour of love more than an investment. I just do not see them appreciating much in the long run.

Also, FWIW - I'm pretty sure I've seen a vending box of 1979 Yankees before. I wonder if some high grade cards were available there...?
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

    check out this ebay listing:

    Unopened Tigers pack

My guess is this card is a PSA 7. I have a run of one each of BK sets from 77 through 80 except for the Astros. I submitted a 77 Piniella that I thought looked good and it came back a 7.
I would love to do the 78s in PSA to compliment my Topps set, but it may just be submit and see what comes back, because it will just be too hard to collect...........until 4SC cracks them open.

    Hey Wascally Wabbitimage

Have you submitted very many of the 1980 BK Pitch Hit and Runs?

I'm looking for a PSA 9 Winfield. If you come across one, I'm a ready buyerimage

So far, I've only submitted those 2 Ryans. I've passed up many PSA 9 Ryans on Ebay for dirt cheap prices because I was absolutely sure at least one of mine would get a 9. I already have it in an 8 and these 2 I sent in, blow away my 8. At the rate I'm going, I'll be lucky just to get 1 of each card in a 9 for a set, much less have a duplicate 9. But, if I do get an extra Winfield 9 along my journeys, I'll let you know.
