Keith - Steve? What are these?

Oval movie stars; embossed border, bit of gloss to the front, backs are blank. Hand tinted actresses from the '20s. Size is roughly 2.25" high. I'm guessing Carreras, but I don't know for sure. I picked up 10 different for hardly anything at all - I don't think anybody knew what they were. I still don't - but I likes 'em:

  • Nice cards Mark. It looks like the top one is hand tinted/colored too. And embossed too? I really like the embossed cards. I have no clue as to what they are yet, but from the looks of the pictures, they are early 20's at the latest. Im out of town today, but will look around when I get back.

Sometimes the little unknown ones are just as fun as any others.

These are embossed, but not along the lines of the Garbaty issues. The embossed portion is only along the oval border, which is slightly raised above the level of the picture, giving the card a "framed" appearance. They definitely appear to be English, but I can't really place them due to the lack of any kind of identifying markings.

  • Mark, nice cards. I can't identify them but have seen a few for sale from English dealers from time to time. A lot of British sets go for next to nothing. I purchased a complete Rhodesian Series set of 25 cards of real pictures from the 1930s and the shipping cost me more than the cards.
