SPORTS CARD & MEMORABILIA AUCTION FOR HURRICANE RELIEF

This is a long thread and I'm posting it on multiple forums, multiple sites, and multiple categories so apologies if you've seen it before. Starting Sept. 12, my company, iTailers (www.itailers.com) will be running a 3-month long event to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina. We will accept any and all sports related items and/or experiences. We have contacted many, if not all, of the major card and memorabilia authenticators in the country about getting on board and we hope to have most, if not all, help out in one way or another. Additionally, we have spoken with various professional sports teams and organizations in the Southeast and hope to have their support as well. We will be updating our website with information as soon as all of the details are finalized (Probably Friday-Sunday the 11th) but in the meantime, please read up, email us questions (info@itailers.com) or call us (404.806.0273) if you would like to donate or help out! We have received approximately $11,000 in donations since last Thursday! We will be able to furnish anyone who donates with a receipt from us and documentation from the American Red Cross. This will allow for a tax donation. For more information you can start to get an idea by reading this thread:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/thread?forumid=153652&messageid=1125545063&lp=1125613088
Scroll down a bit and you'll get all of the info (look for black sox fan). This is the main post that i will be updating as more information comes in! We would love donations for this event and please let people know about this!

Thank you for your time,
Ted Golden

How do we know you are legit? Track record? References?
  • GriffinsGriffins Posts: 6,076 ✭✭✭
FWIW, I'll vouch for Ted personally. He's helped me and a few others I know with their web sites for free, and is a pretty charitable guy. I have no reason to believe his efforts won't go 110% to the victims of this disaster, and urge everyone to find something to donate, however small.

    All,

I echo Anthony's post -- I just finished a major transaction ($4000.00) with Ted. The transaction was flawless and Ted was a pleasure to deal with. We got to meet at Nationals in Chicago, and I really appreciate Ted's efforts for the relief effort. Ted is a true collector and credit to our hobby.

I just wanted to jump in line with Anthony, and serve as a reference for Ted.

    Thanks

What is Blacksoxfan's name on ebay?
  • Hi Guys -
First of all, I want to thank both Anthony and Brian for their kind words. It is always a pleasure to have people like you to deal with. I am hard at work right now putting together our first submission for authentication.

Collectors universe as a whole has made a sizable donation to the relief effort. At this time, Joe Orlando and I have had a few discussions and he is seeing what PSA can do asside from the generous actions of CU. He should be thanked and commended for taking time out to at least explore the situation with myself and my company. He has extended to me a few great options as of now. We will let you know what, if anyting else we can come up with.

As for our feedback, yes indeed that is us. I will personally answer any questions regarding any negative feedback you see. We are an honorable company and do our best to satisfy both our clients and our customers. Some of the stories you will probably find very entertaining as they have provided us with a good chuckle.

As for the legitimacy of this, our company is well respected in and around the local area. We have an excellent feedback score. You are welcome to visit our website for more information. I'm currently working on some of the code as well and hopefully will be finished with it no later than this evening or first thing Thursday. In the meantime, you are more than welcome to email me or my staff with any questions you may have. 404.806.0273 or email us at info@itailers.com. My email address is tgolden@itailers.com.

For all who have donated, I thank you kindly. As for the gentleman with kind words, I feel truley grateful for your support. This cannot be done without the donnators.

    Regards,
    Ted Golden

  • Hello everyone. We have already recieved 300+ cards for our auction. These cards date as far back as 1888. This has been complimented by a handful of autographed memorabilia. We urge you to donate and give whatever you can. Once again, we want to let you know: all donations are tax deductible, please give as we are hoping to raise upwards of $50,000 for Hurrice Katrina relief. We urge you to contact us with any questions or potential donations. This is the only board not to have at least 1 donation!!!!! I will be spending the rest of the evening updating our website and talking with our hosting service to get our database back online!

    Sincerely,
    Theodore Golden

  • In response to a post on this thread:
    Question - by Blacksox Fan

<< Ted - I'll call in over the next few days and see if you want anything that I have. Kudos for your efforts. It's great that you have some grading companies roped in with authentication/grades. That's big on their part - almost as big as the item donations themselves.

You alluded to soft contribution from this board. Regardless of the particular board, I think it's only due to a few reasons:
    1. Everybody is giving in other ways - cash, work, school drives..
    2. The start up list of donated items is kind of specialized.
    3. It takes some effort to click around, read the links, visit the web.
    4. People are unsure if the items they may donate are "worth it."

Maybe if you suggest a reasonable minimum value that a donated item may resell for at market value in an auction (is it $10 bucks, $25 bucks, $50 bucks?...and collectors will know) you may get some more response. You are donating "time" resources to this, and it will cut down phone dialog and may increase contributions. IMHO. Thanks for what you are doing. Regards... >>

Wise Points and i thank you for your insight. I certainly understand that people are donating in their own ways, i certainly don't want people feeling like we assume the only way to help is to donate to this auction :-). I will try and explain this here, as well as on the pinned thread as i have some time. If you are donating anything to the Hurricane Relief drive..then you are doing your part.

I will be happy to take nearly anything, obviously, if an individual item is worth more than $50.00 then that would be idea. However, several people have donated large quantities of items where some items will be worth 5-10 a piece. In this case, we will be able to offer lots. For example, one person has donated a large number of nu-nu's from 1961. These items individually are probably worth b/w 5-10. However, will will probably offer this up as a lot and it will generate enough money. I personally collect almost entirely pre-war memorabilia. Many of our donations have come from that group, and as many of you may know, cards in that era can easily bring in money. We in fact have 20+ items with values exceeding $200. This biggest part of this is going to be the authentication of the products. As a result, we would obviously desire items that are already authenticated, but we can also handle the situation on are end.

To make a long story short, if anyone has item or items that are at least $5-10, we can accept it. Although it might cost us more money in time and effort, it will allow us to donate more money to the ARC and that is what counts. All you have to do is send you items with a list of what is included as well as your name/number/email/address. It is very important that you itemize your list before you send it in. To date we have recieved 300+ cards, 15+ pictures, and potentially one ball. However, steiner sports will be sending us donations shortly and who knows what goodies will be in there. I hope that this answers your questions, but if not, please feel free to call us.

    Sincerely,
    Theodore Golden & Staff

Thanks for the response.....great help, especially including the shipping address and instructions on the "packing list." I'll be shipping off some cards and a few auto'd baseballs on Monday. Thanks for your efforts and best regards.

Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!
  • It's a very worthy cause. I decided to cut out some steps and middlemen, hold onto my cards, and send a check directly to the Red Cross relief fund. This is in addition to donating to the local drives that are still ongoing, and paying into a Katrina Fund every time I stop at the local supermarket. But I will likely buy things in the auction and help your particular effort that way.
  • Thanks cardaholic, we are hoping that with our reputation and skill set combined with the advertising that prices will be at a premium. In the meantime, here is the bump to keep this thing at the top...
