An ugly rivalry
Neither victor FSU, loser Miami is worthy of top 15

Lorenzo Booker and the 'Noles ended the Miami hex, but they still lack a decent QB.

Sometimes, you have to call a spade a spade. Throughout Monday night's four-hour Miami-Florida State snoozefest, the ABC graphics kept referring to the 'Canes and Seminoles as No. 9 and No. 14, respectively. Did anyone outside of the state of Florida actually feel like they were watching two teams in or near the nation's top 10?

Sure, there were top-10-caliber athletes flying all over the field. But what were they doing most of the time? Muffing punts, botching snaps, dropping passes, throwing interceptions (and should-have-been interceptions) and getting called for stupid penalties. Brent Musburger tried to spin it as an old-school defensive struggle, but give me a break. That Florida State won the game despite some of the most inept quarterback play imaginable -- and despite failing to score after taking over at Miami's 1-yard line -- was certainly a testament to the 'Noles' dominant defense, but it also helped that the opponent was similarly incompetent to the point that it couldn't score even a game-tying field goal after driving all the way to the FSU 2 in the final minutes.

And the fact is, it's been much the same way for the past four meetings of these rivals, ever since Ken Dorsey departed Coral Gables and Jeff Bowden decided to send FSU's offense into the stone age. Both teams have so much raw talent that they can beat eight or nine of their opponents simply by showing up to the stadium, but neither team has been a legitimate national title contender the past two seasons, and neither showed any indication Monday night it will be this year, either. So no, you will not see either anywhere near this pollster's top 10.

I called it a night after the third quarter, it was so embarrasing to watch.

  • oh shut up. Just because we didn't schedule Iowa Tech Community College on the first week to work out our kinks they say we don't deserve it? OU didn't deserve there ranking. What idiots....
XLee And weatherford are "Decent" QB's they just didn't have time to throw. Give them some time, I mean it was only their first college game they played in. I'll be damned! they were supposed to throw for 4 td's on UM's Great Defense...right?

  • I wish the ACC would seriously consider moving this game to later in the year, since these two teams need time to iron out the kinks.

This is supposed to be the ACC's two flagship schools, lol.

Exactly. This should have been played at minimum of 5-6 games into the season. How far in advance do they schedule these games? For quite some time this game looked like two inexperienced QB's against top 10 defenses. Sure the public wanted a "big game" this early on, but the schedule makers should have looked to put two complete teams in the Labor Day primetime slot.

Take your team, mix in a freshman QB, and put them against a top 10 defense the nation..what do you get?

This is easy to see. The ACC is dominate and no one wants to admit that. Whats more, is that they have the balls to schedule this game
right off the bat unlike the entire nation who plays high schools the first week. The state of Florida has been the most dominate state
in football period. There isn't a year when one of the 3 teams isn't in the national title hunt. That makes everyone mad. They know
we have the best players, and that they litter the first round of the NFL Draft. We have the rings and we have the perfect seasons....It
just makes the rest of the nation so mad when we can go the entire season, not lose a game, AND play 3-4 powerhouses in the
    process.

Most 5th year starters would be cringing week 1 if they had to play FSU or Miami. Instead of looking at the mistakes, why don't you look
at the defenses. Guys were dropping balls because they knew they were going to get hit...not from a 140 pound UAB back or a Hawaii
back, but a guy who is headed to the NFL!! Get a punt blocked...you think that is rust..its called speed, the Nole who blocked that just
ran by the guy!! When you're up there kicking and more importantly hiking the ball, you know that that defense has speed, that changes
things!! You think 9 sacks won't change they way a QB throws..you better believe it!!

If you think your team is better, thats great, but until they play a top teams, they aren't squat.

The rest of the nation is jealous. Don't you wish you were as powerful as the state of Florida??

    you aren't

All your blustering and your precious noles still can't crack the top 10, and USC STILL overwhelmingly is the number one team in the nation?

Don't you wish you had a top 10 team?

I wasn't aware that any portion of either of those teams were "Top 10".

except for possibly in the ARREST catagory.
  • haha...USC puts up points...don't get me wrong. But Hawaii isn't exactly a "Decent" college team! People go there to party not play football! If FSU played that cupcake they would rake in 65 points to! And a shutout!

You wish you could be FSU, but you arent...

FSU in 05-06...Don't Think No different.
