New card for Puckett MAster set ?

Hello all you Puckett fans out there . Was looking at the Puckett maseter set and noticed that the 1988 Donruss "bonus" card was not listed. It was atached to selected Donruss rack packs and had to be cut from the package like a lot of the "box cards " of that time period. I've attached a scan here. You can see it has a different front from the regular 88D card. I'll attach scan of the back in following message (do not know how to get two scans up in same mesage) Notice there is no number in the little baseball in the upper left corner.

ANyone know why this is not in the master set. ??

I believe that is a box bottom Puckett. Only PSA gradable relatively recently with the "Hand Cut" notation.

Its not in the Master set probably because PSA has never graded a copy? They probably never will because they are pretty tough on the box bottoms in terms of size and the black lines showing? I have had probably 15 box cards rejected 2 or 3 times . I have finally given up on them! They look fine in rigids.
    Good luck

  • sagard,

since I cut this card out myself (with paper cutter) I know it didn't come from a box bottom, but rather a rck pack . If you check Std Catalof of BB Cards , which lists all box bottom cards, you'll see there was no 1988 D box bottom cards.

I think I remember that card, and it didn't come from a true rack pack, but from a blister pack.

  • Nick M,

you are correct, blister pack. I'm just surprised that no one has ever catalogued it.

It's amazing how many flavors of '88 Donruss there were.

    Cool.
  • Just sent one into Psa with the special as well as about 99 other Puckett cards. They should grade it. we'll see.

Box bottoms are tough. PSA sometimes does and sometimes does not with the Schmidt box bottoms I submit. Yours looks like it is cut irregularly - so if they graded it, I can only imagine an "Authentic" at best.

Usually with the box bottoms, PSA prefers, I think, that you cut outside the lines, which almost necessitates cutting into another card.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • MS,
It isn't a box bottom. It was added to Blister Packs. It was always the front card. Therefore i have found corners to be an issue.

    Armour,
Your card looks OC T/B and L/R. And it does have a slight Tilt.
  • It was a blister pack card, but the card was printed on the blister pack, it was NOT included in the blister pack. Thats why, to me, it is the equivalent of a box bottom card. By the way it had no black borders around it.
