I don't have my references with me and I won't be back on until Sunday. I can try to give you a few pointers then. There are only three really tough varieties N-9, 13, and 14. N-7 is listed as an R-4 coin but I've never had any trouble finding them and probably have 4 or 5 of them.
One thing I can tel you to look for is to look at the serifs on the center bars of the E's. On N-14 the serifs are smaller and square. On all other varieties they are broad and triangular almost reaching the top and bottom bars. Compare the serifs of the E's (and the shape of the S's) on this N-14

There are only 5 known N-14's and the coin pictured above is an $11,000 coin.
Try going to www.coinfacts.com. They have photos of all of the varieties of 1822 (and every other date for that matter). You can compare your coin directly to the images. I'll give ya 5 bucks for it if it's an N-14.
