Your money will be better spent if you know, and can help someone who is directly tied to people from NO.

My wife just met a new colleage about six months ago who is from NO, and her entire family is now with her in Jackson, MS. In this instance, Monique could make better use of a care package and some extra cash to hold her family over; i.e. no admin costs being wasted.

It looks like "over" may be at least 2-3 months, at least.
  • MacCrimmon - I see your point, but I do not know anyone who lives in the affected area, so I gave to the ARC. I trade energy futures and have done very well this week. I'm still long unleaded gasoline and natural gas becuase I think the prices will continue to climb.

Your guess on the "over" of 2-3 months is too short, IMHO, especially in the energy sector. I'm guessing more like 6 months minimum.

ARC is just fine. If it weren't for the business contact late last year, we wouldn't know anyone affected either.

Stew, Blanchard died a long time ago!image Seriously, I have not heard anything about their operations....

See my thread in the US Coin Forum regarding possible specially issued PCGS "Relief" slabs to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

WHO WOULD BUY SPECIAL PCGS HURRICANE KATRINA RELIEF SLABS OF AL/LA/MS STATE QUARTERS TO HELP RAISE NEEDED FUNDS?

Carol was nice enough to Lock a thread at the top of the Buy Sell Trade Forum for me. Ebay nuked a auction that was running because they thought it was a scam I guess. Forum members suggested that the items should be auctioned here so that is whats going on.

Since starting the thread two collectors have donated coins and one more is sending pictures tomorrow. Also one member has used Pay Pal to send money for the donation. The money will go to the American Red Cross as soon as I have a final tally.

Being from Oregon this was just about all I could do but thanks to Forum Members it is turning out nicely.

  • Donated to the American Red Cross yesterday and have an ebay action at 100% donation. I will have some ore items on ebay next week at 100% donation.

  • Donated "Friday's NYC date night" dinner money to the ARC (and my company matched, so I would suggest everyone wanting to donate to look into this at their company). Going to sit home and have hotdogs tonight instead.
  • Blanchard has temporarily moved its headquarters from New Orleans to Dallas TX.

  • Cash to the American Red Cross!!!
  • Gave to the Southern Baptist Mission Board that is operating 103 kitchens and relief centers and working with Salvation Army. Also ran across displaced NO family and gave them cash as they are about destitute.

They have moved some of the people to Phoenix so I got some new toys and took them down there, they sent me to another place to drop them off and told me they would get them over there in the next day or 2. I feel bad for the kids!

Anything you can contribute to a legitimate organization would be appreciated. I have 65 employees who are now homeless. I am providing them food, clothes, and shelter until they get back on their feet. I'm trying to get some FEMA trailers for them now.
